Unclear sentence[edit]

"he rose from the ranks to command rather than the Wu Keju Imperial Examinations." Is it trying to say that he got his promotions without going through the usual examination system? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:32, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. According to Chinese sources he was promoted from the ranks of the army rather than by taking the Imperial Exam. I changed the sentence, which now reads "Unlike some of his contemporary generals, he rose from the ranks of the army to a command position rather than through the Wu Keju Imperial Examinations."--SamHolt6 (talk) 13:06, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
