Deaths at Cave Stream[edit]

I would like to expand this page to include details of the deaths that have happened here. Death is an important safety reminder, and knowing the details may help people pay appropriate caution, when otherwise they would not.

In October 1987, a 17-year-old Thai student at Christchurch's St Margaret's College was swept to her death by the current and another girl was lucky to escape by clambering on to a ledge.

In June 2003, a 40-year-old mother and Operations Manager from Christchurch died from hypothermia. She was exploring the cave with her husband and two children (Ages 8 and 13) when their flashlights died. The family as a whole were unable to climb the waterfall near the half way point in the dark, and the father continued ahead to try and get help. Rescuers accompanied the father back into the caves from the exit, before finding the two children and the mother's body. The rescuers were able to exit the caves with the children. Sure. Go for it. The article is poorly referenced and you adding content plus references can only improve things. Schwede66 23:27, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
