Removal of detailed information on disambiguation page[edit]

I removed the detailed information regarding the explanation and use of the term Cathedral city, with respect to he United Kingdom and former colonies, because disambiguation pages are intended only to direct the reader to the appropriate article on the topic. Disambiguation pages are not intended to define terms or provide article content. Unfortunately there does not appear to be a specific article that explains the nuances of the term as it relates to a former British colony. Perhaps the City status in the United Kingdom article should be expanded to explain the term. MissionInn.Jim (talk) 01:21, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I used some of the previous description to add an entry into Wikitionary. Hopefully that will eliminate the need to explain the term here. MissionInn.Jim (talk) 19:24, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That may not be the purpose of a disambiguation page. But the entry for cathedral cities outside the United Kingdom now does not make any sense. How do they resemble cathedral cities in the United Kingdom? This is not made clear. Until a substantive article includes this sort of detail (and it is far from clear that this detail belongs in City status in the United Kingdom, an explanation adequate to clear up what is actually being referred to should be included here. I do not see how this conflicts with this page serving the purpose of a disambiguation page.GSTQ (talk) 07:23, 12 September 2011 (UTC) In any event, the entry for the type of city ought to be "Cathedral city" with the second "c" lower-case. It is not a place-name in this context.GSTQ (talk) 07:26, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
