Scream before the solo![edit]

Fair use rationale for Image:04 cantbuymelove.jpg[edit]

Image:04 cantbuymelove.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. TWO!? versions?[edit]

This article doesn't differentiate between the Hard days night album version and the more common radio version. The radio version is the actual single which is detailed in the article. I can’t find any reference to a different mix or edit used for the film soundtrack. Also, I’m not aware of any (Beatles) version of it in D.--Patthedog (talk) 17:37, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting! This is one of the earlier takes from the Pathe Marconi sessions by the sound of the harmonies. Mark Lewisohn describes them as such in his "The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions". They’d dropped this treatment by take four in favour of the recognisable version we all know. So this is an out-take and it wasn’t used in the film . I wasn’t aware it was in a higher key though, unless it has been speeded up (although it doesn’t sound speeded up - sounds like McCartney is having to strain a bit!). Paul McCartney cover version?[edit]

Cover versions[edit]

I think it's notable that Cab Calloway sang this in his 1965 Sweden stage show. It's essentially a cover of Ella Fitzgerald's 1964 big band arrangement as sung on Ed Sullivan. The only citations I find are on YouTube, on videos with doubtful copyright authority. Here's the line I'd like to see, but I can't back it up. If anyone can find an acceptable citation, I think it would be a worthwhile addition. Thanks.

Cab Calloway, in 1965 at age 57, included a cover of Fitzgerald's big band arrangement in his stage show in Sweden.

Both Calloway and Fitzgerald sing "Can't buy me love" 3 times in the intro. Both use instrumental fills where the Beatles sing "No, no no. Nooooooo!"
