Lots of errors in the photo captions[edit]

The convoy is not returning FROM the Burma road, but along it. That's not a 'truck' but either an ambulance or specifically a medical supplies lorry, as the symbol shows. Can someone PLEASE fix these???!!!!!

First Edits[edit]

I have removed the "stub" tag & added an account of the building of the road that is based largely on Yitzhak Levi's "Tish'a Kabin" (Nine Measures) - summarizing what I wrote elsewhere and referencing it (the other article has references to the original Hebrew). Levi was in the first jeeps to arrive in Tel Aviv from Jerusalem over the road and was chief of Hagannah intelligence in Jerusalem. Therefore, his account should be reasonably accurate.

American accounts credit Col. David "Mickey" Marcus with initiating the idea of the road, but I have not seen of any Israeli account that does so, though he is mentioned in Levi's account as surveying it. Marcus had overall command authority. An Israeli professional historian I consulted concurs that Marcus was not the initiator or real manager of the road project. I have finessed this difference of opinion since there is evidently no way of resolving it. [[Mewnews (talk) 00:30, 18 September 2008 (UTC)]][reply]

'Professional historians' often have an agenda. As someone who grew up in Jerusalem during those years, I can say that we always regarded Marcus as the initiator and motive force.

ABSOLUTELY. This is an idiotic term. Israel War of Independence is the historically correct term, accepted by all serious scholars. But trust Wiki to be motivated by hatred towards Israel on all occasions.

The Burma Road was opened by the 7th Brigade. The 7th Brigade was commanded by Major-General (Aluf) Shlomo Shamir. See the book "to Jerusalem at any Price" ISBN 965 05 0717 5 and also "Latrun" by Ram Oren ISBN 9965 7130 16 2 . The opening of the Burma Road was not planned or supervised by David Marcus who was recruited in the USA by Shamir. Yaelshamir (talk) 08:19, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
