NPC[edit]

I was surprised no one caught this, but BUPERS as a formal office actually no longer exists. The current command is Navy Personnel Command, or "NPC". I updated the article. Its easy to get confused since the logo still has the old office name on it. -OberRanks (talk) 20:53, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I (and probably Congress) would dispute the notion that BUPERS as a formal office no longer exists. Title 10 United States Code clearly indicates that the Navy Shall have a Bureau of Personnel. The person that runs this office shall be titled the Chief of Naval Personnel see here: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/10/usc_sec_10_00005141----000-.html

Further, the BUPERS command is referenced on the Navy Personnel Command website:

The article needs to be corrected to accurately reflect that BUPERS exists.

I'm not sure of the status now. I intended a briefing at Millington a week and a half ago where a senior member of NPC stated "the Navy has no more Bureaus" but the Bureau of Naval Personnel seal is still all over the place and apparently is a parent command to both NPC and Recruiting Command. Yet, on the flip side, Naval Personnel Command now does all the things that BUPERS used to do and any and all personnel matters are handled by Navy Personnel Command and not BUPERS. Yes BUPERS still exists. The Chief of Naval Personnel's (CNP) primary office is at the Navy Annex in Arlington, Virginia which is literally right across the street from the Pentagon. While it is true that a good number of BUPERS personnel is located in Millington, the CNP's job takes him to the Pentagon and Capital Hill on various occations. Also, the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy's (MCPON) office is in the same building as the CNP whom the MCPON directly reports/advises to. Neovu79 (talk) 05:22, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NAVPERS[edit]

Hi. I've no connection with the US Navy, but have taken an interest in some related articles. I keep seeing mentions of NAVPERS - which indeed is mentioned currently in 82 WP articles.

So, I thought WP should describe what NAVPERS are. They seem to still exist, and some at least are listed on this site: http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/forms/NAVPERS/Pages/default.aspx

They are also referenced on various other web sites, some of which I think may be useful sources too.

So, I plan to add a paragraph to this article, so that when the next person after me sees NAVPERS on WP, they can then find a central article on WP that gives a little clue at least into what a NAVPERS is.

Also related to NAVPERS are NPPSC and NAVPERSCOM. The latter are in 5 WP articles.

BUPERS and NPC are two separate entities as of 2023[edit]

From what I can tell here: https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/About-MyNavy-HR/Commands/Navy-Personnel-Command/Leadership/

It seems like BUPERS is a parent organization to NPC. NPC's Commander is also the Deputy Chief for BUPERS.
