Should the well-known prison stereotype of "Bubba", aka-"The Reason Why You Don't Drop the Soap", be mentioned? It might just be an urban legend, but hearing about this guy is part of why I am not in prison, as I don't want to be anybody's "b****"! - 70.109.72.185 23:28, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I already included it. ;) Drumpler 00:23, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't disagree; I just think it needs a source.71.63.119.49 00:25, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's used almost exclusively this way on internet comment forums. I was looking for the origin of that quirk when I found this. And no, this reference is no longer in the article. Sometimes it is hard to find a citation for things that are so obviously true that no authoritative source publishes a statement. NASA never published "The sky is blue", yet it is obviously blue (except at night or on overcast days), so does wikipedia disallow statements like "The sky is blue"?

The other problem with citations is that a lot of published books contain nonsense.174.88.9.95 (talk) 21:17, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Two things that are bothering me[edit]

'Bubba Smurf, who is red' looks like vandalism to me, and I could find any reference to any official Bubba Smurf on google, but I never really followed the Smurfs, so I don't know for certain that he didn't exist. Also, 'Bubba, General Manager Albion Hotel, Guelph.' looks like someone who is not notable enough to deserve to be here. Cheesechimp 08:32, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bubba, watch this![edit]

I've seen this quote on the internets but have no idea where it comes from or what it means. Maybe someone can explain in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.174.130.136 (talk) 09:49, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bubba and Prison Sex[edit]

It really doesn't matter to me, because I was initially giggling when I put the paragraph up, but I think the Bubba and Prison Sex reference is needed because it is a source of common prison sex jokes in the general vernacular, movies, etc. The person who removed it (Bubba Hotep, I believe) said it wasn't good practice to put in a citation needed tag when I was the one that originally posted it up, but I did this after a short while of googling various phrases to find the history behind the joke and then being deluged in Bubba sex jokes instead. However, I receive this bit of advice and nothing else is properly cited either (except for the names section). Where's the bias? Are prison sex jokes, even notable ones, appropriate for an article on Wikipedia? I think so. Heck, the article on vaginas even includes a picture of an actual vagina, but that's because it is actually needed. Like it or not, Bubba is a generally used name in these jokes and appropriate for an article on this subject, especially when other pejoratives surrounding the name are discussed. Drumpler 21:38, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Likewise, I've seen no one else complain. I'm assuming Bubba Hotep is acting in good faith and am only posting my own thoughts on the issue. :) Drumpler 21:39, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Blimey, it wasn't really that big a deal. I removed it because you added the {{cn}} tag at the same time as adding the info, which just strikes me as wrong wherever I see it. I have heard of such references... I heard it in a film once, and now you've made me go and have a trawl for it... back soon. Bubba hotep 21:52, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. I'm not trying to make it a big deal, I just wanted to explain my reasoning. :) Drumpler 03:55, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The prison sex connotation is all over the place, usually when people think that the death penalty - or whatever the judge said - is not enough. I am surprised there is no mentioning here. I also wonder what kind of a gay brother this mythical Bubba is supposed to be? (Probably more scary if you don't know and just let your imagination go wild on a tangent ...) Uhmm ... Diving into The Urban Dictionary sets an approximate stage. MX44 (talk) 15:36, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I added a fairly carefully worded item on this - it really seems to be missing here! If the consensus it that it is not appropriate (after a decent discussion) then lets remove it. Matt Beard (talk) 18:05, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The changes made 09:56, 7 June 2008 by Aujourd'hui, maman est morte seem to have changed the meaning in a significant, and unhelpful, manner. I understand from the user's contributions that they are interested in, and have strong views on, the subject of prison rape. However, it is true that people do joke about this subject and Wikipedia is supposed to document truth rather than the world as we wish it to be. The modified text reads as if the joking reference is to consensual intercourse, whereas it is undoubtedly about rape. Maybe we can find words that document the facts of the belittling of this subject through jokes without those words either belittling the subject themselves, or becoming overly moralistic or censoring. Matt Beard (talk) 11:17, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there Matt, thanks for letting me know about this discussion. The only reason I changed it was the tone of what was originally there.
Original text I changed: especially weak ones or those deserving bad treatment, will be locked up with a large guy called Bubba who will become extremely intimate with them - by force if necessary!
It needs better wording - for instance: "weak ones or those deserving bad treatment" is POV
"will be locked up with a large guy called Bubba who will become extremely intimate with them - by force if necessary!" - is written in a very non-professional tone
I have no problem with the content itself, I realize this is true, but without a source on the topic at hand I just altered it as best I could. I really have no agenda here other than a truthful account of the facts. I think if we just slightly change the wording it should be fine. Thanks again for letting me know about this.Aujourd'hui, maman est morte (talk) 12:05, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Common Association with "Baba" incorrect[edit]

"Baba" is english spelling for a Ukranian word that means "grandmother" Ukranian children love to visit their Baba and Guido (pronounced Bah-bah and gee-dew) It's not "BUBBA AND GWEDO" - those are indeed cell mates, and not anyones grandparents. Thank you.

Elvis[edit]

Is there a reason the Elvis vampire is called "Bubba" ? (Also note "Bubba Ho-tep" also featuring Elvis.) -- Beardo (talk) 09:31, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
