The article was changed last night to call her an "entertainment project." This is obviously a subtle way of spamming the page to criticize her, and it's a bit shocking to me that this edit has lasted all day without anyone changing it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.153.116.200 (talk) 20:33, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

2007 umbrella incident

I know that Wikipedia isn't a tabloid and shouldn't be including every single mishap, but since this was among the more notable episodes of her breakdown, should this be included in the 2007 section? WikiRedactor (talk) 01:19, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Spring Breakers (2012)

Can we add this section to her legacy page or at least make note of it. The entire film is basically an homage to Spears, even the director said that her spirit is basically the backbone of the film.

This article states that Britney has sold over one billion bottles of fragrance and earned her 1.5 billion dollars. The article cited clearly states that she has sold over a million and the *gross* revenue was 1.5 billion, not her earnings. Asiral00 (talk) 08:53, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Edit

A recent edit made to Britney's main page was reverted for 'unreliable sources'. All sources added pertained to the sections they were added to and were direct quotes from Spears from reputable sources such as MTV News, Shape Magazine, MuuMuse, FHM, Hip Online, and AOL. The first is a quote from Spears from her interview with Shape Magazine this year, which seemed notable to add since she spoke about her new album's overall sound. The second was a direct quote from Spears speaking to MTV about lip synching allegations, which was vital to the article. The third is two brief quotes from Spears about Janet Jackson as an influence - one from an interview with Hip Online and another taken from FHM magazine. There is already a quote about Madonna there which seems to be taken from a book and has no other source, but whenever a quote about Janet is added they're quickly removed by users who generally contribute mainly to Madonna pages. This comes across as extreme favoritism and bias. She's a massive influence to Britney, which is why these quotes about her should be included in an article about her influences. A quote taken from an interview with AOL was also removed. The final addition was a quote about Britney from Janet, which pertains to the section it was added under.

All sources are reliable and are direct quotes from Britney. None are POV or overly detailed and, if anything, the removal of these quotes seems to be the POV of whoever is reverting them. Most of the websites used as sources used were already used for other references. Can these edits be placed back on the page? — User5482 (talk) 15:39, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

See WP:UNDUE and WP:BIAS. Continuesly stuffing the article with Janet Jackson quotes ranging up to 10k characters most definitely puts undue weight on whatever point you are trying to make. Janet Jackson is already mentioned 13 times. I don't think another 2k-10k paragraph is needed. Nymf (talk) 21:39, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

See WP:NPOV and WP:BIAS. An entire paragraph was not added. There were three brief Janet-related quotes, one from Spears to her influences section (which is justified since there is one about Madonna there) and another from Janet commenting on her, along with one more from an interview with AOL. Another was placed under a section regarding her performing style, which Spears herself compared to Janet and was extremely notable to the what the article is focused on. I think a more undue point would be to remove these additions and only have quotes surrounding Madonna in her influences sections - that comes across as extreme WP:BIAS much more than adding a few very brief quotes from Spears in which she compares herself to Janet as an influence, and also gives the section an unbalanced weight. The article can't have a neutral point of view when it's centered around one person. User5482 (talk) 17:08, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Feel free to bring this to WP:RFC, as you are obviously not going to agree with me and the others who have reverted your edits. Looking at your edit history, and the way you have been pushing Janet Jackson in various articles (stuffing articles with extremely long quotes), I am sure the outcome from an RFC will be the same, though. Nymf (talk) 19:08, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

It shouldn't be necessary to do that. Is there really such a problem with adding three brief Janet related quotes to her influences and performing style section? None are long or overly detailed. The few users who reverted it seem to share the same WP:BIAS point of view. I'd like to just add them and be done with it to make the articles neutral and more detailed. net worth - edit request

'The Original Doll'

It's probably been around 4 years since I first started quite literally begging for an article on the mystery of Britney's elusive lost album, but after seeing a Buzzfeed article and having a quick Google search return more (relatively) respectable and relevant results than I remember, I would just like to reiterate how strongly I feel that an article for the album is needed or, at the very least, for "Mona Lisa." Even though the song alone would be less relevant than the album Britney hoped it would become the lead single for, it would satisfy myself and other readers who were redirected to "Britney Spears" when searching for information on the album.

Google results so far:

"sold over a 100 million records"

Though this is true, it's not relevant to the statement that follows that says she's one of the highest selling female artists of all time. Britney Spears has sold over a 100 million albums (confirmed back in 2009 with an xfactor performance) and has sold over 200 million records (however, that is a little questionable, considering her single sales haven't been kept up with very well, but proven on many occasions to be probably true). I herefor request to change it back to "sold over a 100 million albums", as it's the most trustworthy one and the more impressive one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Goten21 (talkcontribs) 21:28, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Please change " ...Baby One More Time to sell even more. As of today, it has sold 30 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. It is also the best-selling first album by any artist ever.[36]" to "As a young child, Britney Spears was sexualized as a promiscuous young lady who had nothing but sex on her mind. According to her mother, Spears lost her virginity at a young age of 14 and began drinking alcohol at an even younger age of 13. Poor parenting might have been a reason as to why the child pop star had many critics such as Mad TV making fun of one of her hits, “Baby One More Time” and turning it into a parody music video called “Lick My Baby Back Behind”. " because it gives more of a accurate representation of what this song actually did to the child star. Allykamran (talk) 02:50, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

personal issues

This sentence from the lead doesn't seem quite right: "In 2007, Spears's much-publicized personal issues sent her career into hiatus." This is followed immediately by the release of a studio album, and reading the corresponding section of the article it doesn't seem like it was much of a hiatus at all. It also leaves me wondering what those personal issues were. I'd like to see a short summary, something like "In 2007 her aunt died, she lost her children, and she went in to rehab. Despite this she released a studio album..." Kendall-K1 (talk) 15:46, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Someone inserted this: "the accompanying music video was the third most viewed video in 2013 on VEVO despite the video being released in 2012." Girls' Generation

I agree that Girls' Generation should not be listed as having been influenced by Britney. The given source simply compares the singer to Britney but doesn't say anything about influence. Foundation deficit

I had changed "However, it was reported in 2008 that the Foundation had a deficit of $200,000" to "The Foundation ran a deficit of $200,000 in 2006" because that is what the source actually says, but got reverted. A distinguishing "blurb" needs to be added whenever an inbound redirect is ambiguous (unless an existing hatnote already handles the situation; which in this case is not handled, since it isn't "Britney", but "brittany speers"), or we should unredirect the inbound redirect and do something else with it. Her Influences and Associated acts

  Influences

"She has also named Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Sheryl Crow, Otis Redding, Shania Twain, Beyoncé, Brandy, Natalie Imbruglia and Lorde as sources of inspiration"

There is difference between dropping names because she was asked about what she thinks about these people and actually being a fan of them and inspired by them. Britney was influenced by Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and Madonna and it shows in her work too. I don't understand why people keep adding people she actually inspires and influences to her list of people who actually influence her. May be their fans are keep doing that! Beyonce opened for Britney once and she always copies Britney's moves and costumes if you look it up. She just hit big and just like everyone else, it was asked Britney what she thinks of her and she nicely said she inspires her to focus on her work more, that's it. These people Sheryl Crow, Otis Redding, Shania Twain, Beyoncé, Brandy, Natalie Imbruglia and Lorde were all just name drops, nothing more and nothing less. If you listen to her music there is no similarities of their work.

Associated acts

Did Britney work with Innosense??? Did she release album and songs with them??? Why are they part of her Associated acts??? Also if you're adding Will.i.am on her Associated acts, add Madonna and Michael Jackson too as she worked with them once. --Britfan2015 (talk) 19:33, 19 September 2015 (UTC)

2016 update

The following should be added to her 2015-present section of her career:

On March 1, 2016, V magazine announced that Spears would appear on the cover of its 100th issue, dated March 8, 2016, in addition to revealing three different covers shot by photographer Mario Testino for the milestone publication.[1] Editor-in-chief of the magazine, Stephen Gan, revealed that Spears was selected for the "V100" issue because of her status as an icon in the industry. On the decision, Gan revealed, “When looking for cover worthy subjects for our 100th issue, we had to ask ourselves, Who do pop stars and musicians—who have become an integral part of what V represents—look up to and admire? There was only one answer: Britney! She has entered icon status, and who in our world did not grow up listening to her music?"[2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:84:4601:84D1:5D06:F0D1:4729:BEDF (talk) 16:47, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

What's the verdict on this? It should be noted that she was selected to appear on the cover of the anniversary issue. Spears' or Spears's

I believe there's a correctness to both Spears' and Spears's for the possessive. However, MOS:POSS suggests that editors pick one style and apply it consistently throughout an article (currently there is a mix). I've noted that the bare apostrophe appears on 17 of the references, and on merchandising listed at Britney Spears products including autobiography Britney Spears' Heart to Heart, so Spears' may be more recognized/official. I leave it to the editors here who are more expert on the subject to decide and apply the possessive consistently in the article (and perhaps across WP:BRITNEY). Thank-you for giving this your attention. Reidgreg (talk) 20:21, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

The historic correct use of the apostrophe would be Spears's, as the notion of dropping the post-apostrophe S was only used for the possessive form of plurals. When using Spears in the possessive, one would generally pronounce this second S. For instance, looking at a pile of CDs, one might say "these are Beyonce's and these are Spears's" To say "Spears'" would phonetically be no different to if her name was Spear and thus the correct form would be Spears'. Thus, as one pronounces the S, it is part of the spelling. While many words in the English language have silent letters, there is no concept of pronouncing a letter that is not there in the written form. The article here uses the Spears's form in all cases other then when is is a quote from another source. If a book title is "Speares's's's road to blondness" then the article would use that spelling. Conversely, "Spears's collection of Prussian figurines is quite extensive" is correct, grammatically, whilst being factually highly improbable. The use and misuse of the apostrophe is quite a large issue, look around a record store and you are likely to see signs for "CD's and DVD's". Both wrong. "Songs of the 1950's", also wrong, where as "The 1950's Music" is correct as 1950 is being used at the possessive. So..summary...Spears's is correct but if quoting or referring, use the spelling of the source. MrMarmite (talk) 20:45, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
Ah, I see you're quite correct. It's there with the base apostrophe either in quoted material, or once the apostrophe is used as single quotes (not sure that's quite right, but it'd be a formatting issue rather than a possessive typo). BTW, WP:QUOTE does say, "trivial spelling or typographical errors that obviously do not affect the intended meaning ... may be silently corrected" so you can change the typo in the quotes to Spears's for consistency. - Reidgreg (talk) 11:43, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

Hello,

Can you please edit Britney Spears record sells? Her record sells ranges between 184-200 million records (including albums, singles and videos). She has sold over 100 million in album sales alone. Why cant we get this right?

Lead image

There's been a soft edit-war occurring on what the lead image in this article should be. I believe this image: [1] should be the lead image as it is the most current image (July 2016) of Britney available for use on Wikipedia, aside from other photos taken on the same night. It has been continually reverted to other images, notably the article's most recent lead image: [2], however this image is over three years old and is highly outdated when there are clearly other, more recent images available. Traveltoromantis (talk) 23:03, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

I see no problem with using an image that is three years old. It's a very good head and shoulders portrait of her, much better than the new picture which is partially obscured by the microphone and its shadow. And, per MOS:LEADIMAGE, we're probably better off not using a lead image that appears to show a hint of a nipple slip. Meters (talk) 23:39, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
I think the current picture is fine, but the apparent nip slip on the proposed picture looks like it's actually the shadow of part of her costume. It's too bad there aren't any recent photos on Flickr or Commons that aren't of her performing. Pictures in the midst of a heavily choreographed stage performance are rarely flattering. clpo13(talk) 23:46, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
It could be a shadow. I'm just guessing that that is what the last editor who removed the new image was hinting at. I just think the older image is a far superior picture of Spears for the lead. Meters (talk) 23:56, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
For an adult, quality of the photo is far more important that 2 or 3 years difference in age. The current image is good quality and is more encyclopedic. Sundayclose (talk) 01:53, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
The one advantage of the older pic is that there's no hands-free mic in front of her face. Tabercil (talk) 14:51, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
Fair enough; I do happen to think the current image is superior in quality, but I thought it was important to have a more current image of her. Hopefully we get a nice, current red-carpet picture like this one soon! Traveltoromantis (talk) 00:21, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi! I wanted to suggest using a more recent picture. The picture currently used does not adequately represent what she looks like today. That picture is old. I suggest a performance picture such as: http://media1.popsugar-assets.com/files/thumbor/E_fTsJZLITZIipUHBpWgScclEAE/fit-in/1024x1024/filters:format_auto-!!-:strip_icc-!!-/2016/05/22/087/n/1922398/c4331ebe_edit_img_cover_file_41408306_1463963398_GettyImages-533595488/i/Britney-Spears-Billboard-Awards-Performance-Pictures-2016.jpg

or

http://img.wennermedia.com/620-width/britney-pole-zoom-07da0ae6-ba05-4e93-a8f6-1c18efc2d0f9.jpg

or if not a performance picture perhaps another red carpet picture that is more recent than 3 years ago:

or

http://media1.popsugar-assets.com/files/thumbor/Dn17Mp4A2e3eIuiGKDljmMiCv2A/fit-in/1024x1024/filters:format_auto-!!-:strip_icc-!!-/2016/05/22/102/n/1922398/3e3cb635e26ec325_GettyImages-533596298/i/Britney-Spears-Billboard-Music-Awards-2016.jpg

I think these are all better choices than what is currently up now thanks...

Not done Wikipedia can't use copyrighted images in the bio of a living person without permission of the copyright holder. See WP:COPYOTHERS. And frankly, the current image is more encyclopedic than the ones you link. Posed, upper body shots, without other distractions (such as a microphone) are preferred. Piano

She can play the piano Abramlight12 (talk) 21:54, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

She is not known as a pianist. To put an instrument in the infobox it needs to be an instrument that is closely associated with her. Lots of musicians can play a variety of instruments but all of them aren't included in the infoboxes. For example, Paul McCartney played drums on some Beatles and solo songs, but he is not known as a drummer. Sundayclose (talk) 22:04, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

Yes but according to the Toxic wiki article, Janet Jackson knocked her (BS) out of daytime MTV. Maybe Jackson was helping black female artist, and maybe Madonna had something to do with it. 75.121.251.125 (talk) 00:57, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Lead image change

The Wango Tango image is dated. Benmite (talk) 01:08, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Just because an image is dated does not mean it should be changed; the image you've tried to put into the lead infobox has been reverted several times. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the image in the infobox currently. livelikemusic talk! 01:12, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
GASP!
I understand that there is "nothing wrong" with the Wango Tango image; however, all that MOS:LEADIMAGE states is that "Lead images should be images that are natural and appropriate visual representations of the topic." How does the image that I changed to not fit said criteria? I did not change it to a picture which was NOT Britney Spears, nor did I add a more offensive image (unless you consider the slight appearance of bodily sweat offensive, in which case I apologize for subjecting you to such horrid imagery.) I merely changed it so that it could be a more recent and therefore more relevant article. I fail to see how changing a picture twice is "disruptive". Benmite (talk) 01:19, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
As stated in a previous edit-summary, that image was added multiple times since its upload onto Wiki-Commons, and was reverted multiple times. And per WP:BRD, you were reverted and now discussion must take place for a potential image-change. livelikemusic talk! 01:37, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
@livelikemusic Discussion with who? The Coalition of Britney Spears Lead Image Leaders? Sorry, bud. I'm not really understanding what you're saying. Benmite (talk) 01:44, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
A discussion of editors, and your attitude does not give way to assuming good faith. I recommend reading WP:CONSENSUS; you've opened a discussion, and now you have to wait for other editors to become involved with the conversation, to reach consensus on image-change, due to it now being a content dispute. livelikemusic talk! 01:46, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
When was consensus reached with the last image? Benmite (talk) 01:48, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
Again, you are not listening; this has become a content dispute, and a talk page discussion has been opened, which means we must wait for a consensus on the subject. That's how Wikipedia words: consensus. livelikemusic talk! 01:50, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
I understand that, but I'm still confused as to why you removed the image I put. If you could explain the dispute, that would make a lot more sense to me. Benmite (talk) 01:52, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
I already have, multiple times. livelikemusic talk! 01:53, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
All you said was "the other image is fine". I'm not saying it isn't. But I don't see why the other image is so much worse, unless you don't like the aesthetic it gives the page or something. I simply added the image because I believed it would help in making the article more relevant to the present. I never said I removed it because the other image was ugly. The fact that the other image is fine does not mean that the new one is not; ergo, you have only explained why the old one was there in the first place, as opposed to making an argument for why it shouldn't be changed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Benmite (talkcontribs) 01:58, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
You must not be reading everything I have written, because I stated here (in my edit summary) and here (my post on the talk page), I've explained. Especially since the lead image has long been a conflict of edit-wars, it's about time a talk page consensus comes about. livelikemusic talk! 02:02, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
Although I'd be surprised if it did actually get changed for good this time, I support the change to a new image as there are now plenty of suitable photos from this year that are available for use. Traveltoromantis (talk) 04:45, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Political views

If I remember correctly, in the movie Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004), Britney Spears (and Ricky Martin) made some political comments, supporting Bush and the invasion of Iraq ("I think we should just trust our president in every decision that he makes and we should just support that"). Now, in 2016, she almost endorsed Hillary Clinton. I am at a loss as to her views. In Britney & Kevin Chaotic (2004), she seems ultraliberal.Marcin862 (talk) 08:16, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

There should be additional information regarding Spears' vocation because she has written and composed at least some of her own songs. In other words, add "composer" to her list of professions "singer, dancer, actress" and "piano" into her chosen instruments alongside vocals. It's supposed to remind the readers of the wiki page that the woman isn't musically talentless just because she no longer sings live. Sintech22 (talk) 16:02, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

As far as the addition of "piano", that would be a secondary instrument, the infobox is for primary instrument(s), per, the template's documentation. Secondary instruments should be brought up in the article body.
