Needs photos...[edit]

Fifteen Mile Creek[edit]

I'm in the middle of editing this and off to bed. If the power doesn't go out again, I'll try to finish up in the morning. Quick question: is the preferred form "Fifteen Mile Creek" or "Fifteenmile Creek"? (OGN has it as Fifteenmile.) It should be consistent, or if the name changed, it would be good to say so... I've seen it both ways, and also hyphenated ("Fifteen-Mile"). I was merely following the usage of my source document. I don't own a copy of OGN, and blush didn't think to check USGS's GNIS database (which, by the way, I would prefer we use as a definitive style guide in future, since it's free, and I'm poor). I just checked GNIS, and it also styles it as Fifteenmile, so I'll change it.

BTW, I have almost never heard locals include the word "creek" when referring to either the area ("They live out Fifteenmile,") or even the actual stream itself ("I went fishin' on Fifteenmile"). It is definitely known as Fifteenmile Creek, though, as one might hear, "Their ranch is on Fifteenmile, and when it ain't dry, their horses water in the creek," but never "stream." Thanks for checking and for the local color. Good idea about using GNIS as a definitive source. (I don't actually own a copy of OGN either, but Twisted86 was kind enough to loan me his copy while he's busy with school. Before that I racked up a few fines keeping a copy out of the library too long.) So, completely off-topic, but is it a "creek" or a "crick"? I guess my Mom's family lived near "Bitch Creek" in Idaho for a while, and of course you have to pronounce it "crick" for the alliteration. Katr67 21:51, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, everyone knows that "cricks" rise, and "creeks" are the sounds that the floorboards make. Pshaw! (I reck'n I really gotta post that pitch'r o' me in my Stetson and boots.) Speaking of photographs, I dug up the GFA archive photo of Boyd taken in 1908. Unfortunately the generic infobox template will only put one image at the top, so it bumped the map to the bottom. I'll tinker with it to get it to match the city templates when I get a round tuit. (There, this message now complies with the "on topic" rule. Can't find date of incorporation[edit]

None of the published references I've found include a date of official incorporation. The County Clerk's office was not helpful, either -- they don't maintain a single record which includes that information, so one would have to dig through the Journal (minutes) of the County Court (commissioners), page by page, from the time of the first known settlement in the 1850's through the early 1900's (the time of Shaniko's incorporation). I'm not quite that much of a masochist... yet. I'll do some more newspaper searches. If anyone else has any ideas for narrowing the field, I'd appreciate hearing them. Incorrect Status of Community as Abandoned[edit]

Seattlemoto (talk) 20:33, 8 August 2008 (UTC) The paragraph at the top of Boyd denoting it as Abandoned is ridiculous. Even the few beat-up structures, which are outnumbered by brand-new construction with newish (post-2000) vehicles in the driveways, have Dish Network or DirecTV dish mounted on the roof or outer walls. --SeattleMoto[reply]
