AWB

An AWB-supported coup thwarted in 1990? Isn't this referring to the one in 1994? Zaian 00:28, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm a bit confused too. THere were certainly two, and the one in 90 was certainly supported by the AWB. I'll check. Guinnog 00:37, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm struggling here. Can anyone else help?Guinnog 19:34, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
The AWB support for Mangope in 1994 is documented; can't find anything about 1990. Hope you don't mind if I remove the statement for the moment. Zaian 18:27, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Map

Isn't one map enough? Zaian 00:00, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Two maps will cause no harm to this article - expecially since one shows location within (or, technically, surrounded by) ZA while the other map shows only the lands that made up this thuisland in their proper relative locations. =J //Big Adamsky 09:20, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Is that really true that Latvia reconiced Bophuthatswana as a independent state? Latvia was not even a independent state during that time? Dr.Poison 15:12, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

It was after 1991. I assume that Latvia recognized Bophuthatswana during that period.
Why did they do that? Dr.Poison 11:10, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
A quick Internet search suggests that Latvia never actually recognized Bophuthatswana:
Clearly nothing had come of intermittent efforts to beguile or buy international recognition since 'independence' in 1977. No government had given diplomatic recognition nor even hinted at it. Conservative parties and organisations in Bavaria, Italy, Israel, and, later, in Latvia responded encouragingly to Mangope's overtures, but these responses were never put on a formal basis. [1]
I will therefore remove the claim about Latvian recognition from the article. -- Eb.hoop 04:01, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Mafikeng

Could someone help with some information on Mafikeng. I know that it used to be called Mafeking, and that the name changed in 1980, with the town's incorporation into Buphutatswana. I don't know where to find the references though. Maggiedj 11:27, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Recognized by Israel?

The article says that Bophuthatswana was recognized by Israel and had an embassy in Tel Aviv, but this book specifically says, "Officially Israel has not accorded any recognition to these homelands" and says that Bophuthatswana had a trade mission, not an embassy, in Tel Aviv. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 03:40, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Recognition by Israel

Can somebody provide a source that indicates recognition by Israel? There's at least one source that says Israel refrained from recognizing the sovereignty of any bantustan (G. Shimoni, Community and Conscience: The Jews in Apartheid South Africa, p. 157, last paragraph [2]).--128.139.104.49 (talk) 20:11, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

It seems unlikely to me. Every source I've consulted says that only South Africa recognized the "independence" of the homelands. Josh (talk) 11:07, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
