Academy of Country Music Award- Album of the year 1968[edit]

The Bobbie Gentry & Glen Campbell duets album was the first ever by a country duo to achieve a gold album. Its worldwide  sales were well over 1 million, being a big hit on both sides of the Atlantic. It won A.C.M album of the year honors in 1968. One interesting fact is the reason why this successful partnership was never followed up. Glen Campbell states in his auto-biography, Rinestone Cowboy, that his second wife Billie, was so threatened by the beautiful Bobbie that she forbid him to work with her again. He  was not even  allowed to pose in the same photo-shoot for the album cover with her.
