Untitled[edit]

I took it out of the article per policy, but I thought I would mention here that the 7/24/05 edits from IP:66.32.137.162 were claimed to have been by Bob Welch. Jgm 15:40, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Song titles[edit]

Apologies for not knowing, but what are the Wikipedia 'Elements of Style' for song titles? There are no links to Mr Welch's songs, such as "Hypnotized". I don't understand - are they not linked? If they are, shouldn't they be added? JohnAKeith (talk) 04:14, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect date of birth![edit]

The date of birth for Bob Welch is wrong. His actual date of birth is August, 31 1945. Bob explained the reason for this on his messageboard:

"My birthday is actually August 31st, not July 31st. It's because, years ago, when I used to do interviews and bios, I would change the month, (not the year) of my birthday. The reason for this, which now seems really silly, was that I was "heavily into" astrology at the time, and I didn't want anybody to be able to see my "chart", and therefore be able to figure me out psychologically. (the only value I believe astrology has is as an adjunct to psychology). Also, and this is pure vanity, Van Morrison had the same birthday as me (8/31/45) and I wanted to make sure that I was not mentioned on the same day that he was , for "pr" reasons, (having the field clear for yourself etc).Stupid ,..but true."

This was posted on the 'article' page apparently by User:Lawyer2b and I have moved it to 'discussion', where it belongs. I have also corrected the birthdate as per the message. Verne Equinox 02:42, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just so we're clear, I absolutely did not post the above material. User:83.70.249.42 did, immediately following the single edit I made to the article. My edit simply corrected a link to the Sorbonne. Lawyer2b 18:55, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Makeety Makondo here: I posted the correction regarding Bob Welch's date of birth. I am not Bob Welch nor do I directly represent him but while wishing him a happy 59th birthday in July of 2005 he instructed me and other well wishers that his birthday is in fact August 31, and that he would be 60, not 59 (which would make the year of his birth 1945, not 1946. All in the interest of accuracy!). Bob can be contacted at his website (www.bobwelch.com or email: bob@bobwelch.com) for confirmation of this fact.

Fair use rationale for Image:Welchmac.jpg[edit]

Image:Welchmac.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 04:54, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fleetwood Mac Fan Site Penguin[edit]

On his own official Web site, Bob Welch cites the Fleetwood Mac Fan Site Penguin as being the best resource for information on him (and the band). He gave two "interviews" with the site via Q&A sessions in 1999 and 2003. Citations to the site were subsequently blackballed after I put them in. Still, the interviews contain info from the "horse's mouth" not available elsewhere as Welch's star has dimmed and he is not covered by "reliable" media any more.Shemp Howard, Jr. (talk) 18:31, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Who objected to the citations from those interviews? I've used them elsewhere and never had a problem. As far as I know, they're fine. Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:39, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction?[edit]

This statement seems to contradict itself:

(Using mobile equipment borrowed from The Rolling Stones, the band recorded three albums at Benifold: Bare Trees, Penguin and Mystery to Me.)[5] The band's first album to feature Welch and McVie, Future Games, was recorded, however, at Advision Studios in London (as is cited on the back of the album jacket) and Bare Trees was recorded at De Lane Lea Studios in Wembley.

Basically these two sentences say that Bare Trees was recorded at Benifold AND at De Lane Lea Studios in Wembley.

'Fake Mac' section[edit]

The 'fake Mac' section here contains what appear to be erroneous statements and assertions, has only one citation, and seems to be derived from a brief version of events on a fan club website. Permission to rewrite please.194.81.226.132 (talk) 15:55, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, but do use more than one source and rely less on the Brunning book, ideally. Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:00, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'd add that the current version of events as written here (whoever wrote it) is closer to the truth than Brunning's version, so please don't just whitewash it with a dozen cites from Brunning's book and nothing else. Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:12, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The last sentence of this section starts out saying, "It took until the mid 2000s before Fleetwood was summoned to court,". That sounds like it means it happened around 2050, or even around 2500, but it's only 2022 today. Did they mean to say instead, "It took until mid-2000 before..."? Juliekadams (talk) 01:44, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please do give this section a rewrite. I’m too unfamiliar with the facts or I would try myself. To be frank I think the entire section reads like someone (possibly British, probably drunk) personally familiar with the events at the time colloquially shared his memory of the period over his sixth cocktail, and someone made the mistake of writing it down word for word. I’m not sure the section is verifiable or even of interest, and honestly my first inclination was to junk it altogether. Alanrobts (talk) 04:40, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This section does read as if it was written by someone who was there, and who was possibly involved in the events he describes. If so, his take on the story is of course interesting, but he neglects to mention any sources, and he also appears to be unaware of the laws of libel which apply to publication of defamatory statements. Three unsupported allegations have been removed, and the article needs citations and a condensed rewrite to justify keeping it. 194.81.226.131 (talk) 13:24, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This section really doesn’t seem necessary for this particular article. It talks more about the band than Welch himself. Ryanapplesiscool (talk) 21:19, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. It deals mostly with the causes and outcome of the 'fake Mac' tour. If this material has a place anywhere it would be on the 'fake Mac' section of the main Fleetwood Mac page, but as written and with no sources it is doubtful whether it would be usable. 194.81.226.131 (talk) 10:46, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
