  • I've removed a line about Captain Hook's ship from Peter Pan being called the Black Rock. According to my copy of Peter Pan by JM Barrie, Hook's ship was the Jolly Roger. See p. 90 of the Scribner's edition, ISBN 0-684-16611-9. If the ship was called "Black Rock" in some other medium (film, musical, etc.) please provide a reference. Minor islands[edit]

Neither of the co-ordinates listed for the two "Black Rock, Gloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts" islands appear to be notable - one co-ordinate points to land, and the other doesn't have any island visible on Google maps - these could probably be removed from the list? -- Chuq (talk) 02:20, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Black Rock Desert[edit]

I am removing the following:

The justification that was given for including them is that they are notable. Notability guidelines are relevant to decide whether a topic ought to have an article; they are not relevant in deciding whether that article ought to be listed on a particular disambiguation page.

The relevant policy is:

MOS:DAB#Examples of individual entries that should not be created
On a page called Title, do not create entries merely because Title is part of the name
WP:D#Partial title matches
Do not add links that merely contain part of the page title, or links that include the page title in a longer proper name, where there is no significant risk of confusion. Only add links to articles that could use essentially the same title as the disambiguated term.

I don't believe anybody refers to either of these simply as "Black Rock"; they are simply named after Black Rock Desert. New York (disambiguation) doesn't include New York Yankees, for example. jnestorius(talk) 20:46, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Those were there first, before your reorganization of the page. Merging is one thing - selectively removing content is another, and overstepping the intent of a merge. Since you repeated the deletion without attempting to understand the reason why they were restored, it leaves the appearance that they were removed because they aren't interesting to you. We're not talking about a Black Rock gas station or anything like that. The term "merely" in both of your justifications shows you underestimate the significance of these links. Both of those areas are enormous areas of land which were designated literally by an act of Congress. So they're not just included merely because they have Black Rock in the name! These federal land designations are now at least as significant to any description of the Black Rock Desert region as any mountain range. All users of the Black Rock Desert have to abide by BLM's NCA or wilderness regulations. Almost all users will be in one or the other. You obviously received an objection. You don't have consensus to remove these links. I'm going to restore them again - if you remove them again, I'll have no choice but to seek assistance from admins. • Forget about "overstepping the intent of a merge". My original edit summary was "merge Blackrock and Black Rocks; MOS:DAB". Removing superfluous content comes under the "MOS:DAB" part, not the "merge" part. I removed numerous other lines besides the two you restored: numerous redlinks, some duplicate entries, and a few others — Black Rock Beacon, Black Rock Harbor Light. None conformed to MOS:DAB.
  • As to not "attempting to understand the reason why they were restored", your edit summary gave "notable" as the reason. I've already said that's irrelevant, and I've said having "Black Rock" in the name is irrelevant, and you've responded with "it doesn't just have Black Rock in the name; it's also Notable!".
Since I don't worry too much about these things, I won't press the case. I will simply restate that I don't believe anybody refers to either of these simply as "Black Rock". jnestorius(talk) 16:05, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Top of page[edit]

In case anyone wants to further discuss having BlackRock at top of page, I'd start with the pageviews here. I'm not saying that there's nothing more to discuss, but it's worth noting. -- Fyrael (talk) 15:44, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
