I am wondering about this statement:

it is believed that the shooting of Japanese prisoners held in a New Zealand POW camp was done in retaliation for this massacre. The New Zealand camp guard who fired on the Japanese prisoners during the prison riot was the brother of one of the coastwatchers executed on Betio.

I'd like to see a reference to this, as it seems overly speculative to me.Huttoldboys (talk) 02:31, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
