Source of the land[edit]

This source from the Christchurch City Libraries states: "Gifted a plot of land on Gloucester Street by the government, ..." They usually get these things right but on this occasion, I suspect they've got it wrong. The "government" in the 1860s was the Canterbury Provial Council; they owned all a lot of land. But anything that they discussed was reported in fine detail in the newspapers. They did not talk about "Jews" or "Jewish" or "Synagogue" during that time. There are newspaper reports that mention that the congregation was in the process of buying land. I thought I'd document this here. Schwede66 06:09, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that library staff have copied this from the Encyclopaedia Judaica. So the error seems to stem from that encyclopaedia. Schwede66 21:13, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Fracas at the Jewish synagogue[edit]

I suggest it's not worth documenting this in the body, but it does give an insight to customs used. Schwede66 21:13, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
