What is going on with the director credit?[edit]

According to the Hollywood Reporter source, "They quietly shot the film, directed by Gary Fong, in August and September in Los Angeles and Canada, keeping it mostly a secret until the first trailer (revealed above)." But user:Krisbmacgregor is insisting it was directed byJustin MacGregor with this edit stating, "Gary Fong and the links attributed to the concept trailer of which he participated in are not representative of this film, and are in no way affiliated with the film's actual production. Production team/co edits reflect actual team involved in production." There is no reliable source supporting this content. The IMDB page for the film now reflects this assertion. Before films are released, there can be incorrect information given out, but as an objective editor it's difficult to take an anonymous editor's comments at face value as well as IMDB's which may or may not be always a reliable source. I suppose not having the director credit until a reliable sources definitively states who the director is might be a solution. --Oakshade (talk) 03:05, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Director credit was wrongly stipulated by online sources[edit]

The Hollywood Reporter et al. incorrectly attributed directorial credit to Mr. Gary Fong in their online articles published October 12th (and thereabouts), 2016. Mr. Fong was the director of a concept trailer intended to gauge audience reaction to a pursuant motion picture. These online entertainment magazines inaccurately described the film as complete, and having been filmed in August and September of 2016 in Los Angeles and Canada. Neither of these assertions were true. No production had begun whatsoever at that time, as the purpose of the concept trailer was to estimate audience reception prior to production being initiated. In the interim, Justin MacGregor, the concept trailer's cinematographer, was asked to direct the actual production of Best F(r)iends. The film is currently still in production, not completed last year as several online sources, including the Hollywood Reporter source, have portrayed. The reliability of this information can be verified by the recently amended IMDB page for the film, referenced by Oakshade, and should be recognized as wholly accurate. The film's official Facebook page also corroborates the information as insisted – to use Oakshade's word – by user:Krisbmacgregor. Together, these two sources denote production team members, production companies, etc, as edited. Any further uncertainty pertaining to the accuracy of this information can be confirmed through direct contact with the film's production team. Should these two credible online sources not fall within the parameters of Wikipedia's criteria for verifiability, then the solution should be, at the production team's explicit request, to cease any and all reference to Mr. Gary Fong immediately, and to desist from including links to an inaccurately portrayed concept trailer that in no way reflects the actual production of this motion picture. If this is all true, then it's quite remarkable that a reliable source like the Hollywood Reporter and others reported so many details that were patently false. If all that was produced was a teaser trailer and nothing else, then there could be an argument to delete this article. Per Wikipedia:Notability (films), planned films generally are not considered notable as so frequently reported films wind up in development hell and never get off the ground. If it is in actual production and reliable sources report that, then an argument can be made to keep it.--Oakshade (talk) 04:50, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The argument to delete would be perfectly suitable to the production team at this time, should that best reflect Wikipedia's criteria for film notability. As you appear to be the page's creator, Oakshade, you should feel free to proceed with that course of action at your discretion. Having said that, I can confirm that this film is not in development hell, is very much "off the ground", that it is quickly approaching completion, and that it will release later this year as planned – as stated on the above referenced IMDB and Facebook pages. Should it be deemed appropriate to keep the article up, the details as amended March 5, 2016 can be relied upon to be fully accurate and do indeed reflect the film's reality. Kind regards. 2017 film[edit]

A film that premiered in 2017 is a 2017 film. Please stop spreading false information that this is a 2018 film. Thanks. — Film Fan 16:36, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
