BernieBernie (disambiguation)WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT Bernie Sanders has the most page views and he is often known just as "Bernie". Bernie Mac is the only oher contender in this respect, but for short he is usually referred to as just "Mac", as opposed to Bernie.--Prisencolin (talk) 02:13, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose: clear case of WP:RECENTISM. Ebonelm (talk) 02:28, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. There are lots of other notable/infamous Bernies, e.g. Madoff, Kosar, Williams. Clarityfiend (talk) 03:09, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Bert and Ernie as a clear portmanteau⸮ Ribbet32 (talk) 06:01, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • oppose as per others. Tiggerjay (talk) 06:42, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose never called just "Bernie". In ictu oculi (talk) 09:23, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oh no. I don't support the move, and it's quite right that this is likely to fail, but his campaign materials emphasized his first name quite a lot. Do a Google image search for Bernie Sanders bumper sticker, for example, and you'll see many examples where the first name is more prominent, if the last name is there at all. Or look at the campaign's main logo, such as in the infobox of Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, 2016. A good analogue is Hillary, which does not redirect to Hillary Clinton despite—let's face it—her greater notability than his (apparently warrants a hatnote, though). --BDD (talk) 18:16, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I meant in WP:RS, books. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:16, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose WP:ASTONISH. Clear case of recentism and not enough long term significance for such a very common name. Nohomersryan (talk) 12:40, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose move and WP:SNOW close. Sanders will most certainly not be the primary topic for "Bernie", even if he later becomes President.  ONR  (talk)  12:30, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bernie Sanders - c'mon![edit]

He should be on the page. Why don't I make the edit? I'm not interested in drama. And I'm pretty certain it would be "controversial" for some.

Given names have their own page. Clarityfiend (talk) 08:22, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
And exceptions are made where persons are commonly known mononymously (although to be fair, the current Bernie Sanders article doesn't establish this). olderwiser 11:50, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Revisiting this after a year, there are particularly high pageview statistics to Bernie Sanders, so it makes sense to add one exception to list this article beneath the "Bernie (given name)" entry. Other search methods (e.g. Google Images) re-affirm that there is a good chance that anyone searching "Bernie" is looking for Bernie Sanders, despite not being known mononymously as "Bernie". +mt 01:39, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
A "good chance" does not justify adding him here. Bernie Madoff also has very high name recognition, and if you're more sports-minded, Bernie Williams, Bernie Kosar and (for Canadians) Bernie Parent are all quite well-known. Clarityfiend (talk) 06:45, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Adding a few others to a view of pageview statistics (and modifying the axes), views to Bernie Sanders generally exceed most others by a decent margin. I'm not too bothered whether a few notable names are nested in this disambiguation article or not (e.g. see Hilary), but just pointing out there is pretty good evidence to suggest which "Bernie" folks are looking for, and would support this as an exception. +mt 20:38, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note the overwhelming verdict of the section above. Clarityfiend (talk) 06:07, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's a different discussion (which I would oppose). I'm only pointing out pretty good evidence to support an exception to add one person to this disambiguation article, nothing more. +mt 19:59, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
How is that discussion not relevant? If Sanders doesn't qualify as the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, he doesn't qualify to be here. Lincoln, yes. Einstein, yes. Bernie, no. There are just too many other prominent Bernies. Also, I've removed Clinton and Edmund (and a couple of other inappropriate entries) from Hilary. Clarityfiend (talk) 07:43, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
New year, new issues:
I was hoping to lazily wiki “Bernie” and at least see the damn man listed on the page somewhere to click on. He wasn’t listed. Thank you, guys – I thought we were supposed to be a public service? Who the heck doesn’t associate “Bernie” with Mr. Bernie Sanders? The man is larger than US internal politics—it’s a disservice that he’s not listed here! I would add him under the ‘be bold’ principle, but I’m sure it’d just get reverted.
Senator Sanders is notable enough to be listed in this page listing stuff; what kind of right-wing infiltration is opposing this…? You’re opposing informing/educating the populace. Thank you! FelixtheMagnificent (talk) 14:12, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal deleting edits related to Bernie Sanders[edit]

And I won't stand for that. When someone nearly becomes a general election American presidential canditate, they need to be recognized for that, instead of childishly ignored. I'm even willing to get banned over this. That's completely wrong to snub such a major figure in American politcs due to ones own political prejudices.

See previous discussion (the one just before this). The Bernie Sanders article doesn't demonstrate that "Bernie" is an mononymous name for Bernie Sanders. +mt 00:43, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
