BANQUE DE L INDOCHINE HAS FIRST MERGED IN 1975 WITH "BANQUE DE SUEZ ET DE L'UNION DES MINES"; THIS LAST BANK WAS A PREVIOUS MERGE BETWEEN "BANQUE DE SUEZ,CREATED WHEN CANAL DE SUEZ IN EGYPT WAS BUILT" AND "BANQUE DE L'UNION DE MINES" WHICH WAS THE BANK OF MINERS IN THE NORTH OF FRANCE. BANQUE DE L'INDOCHINE BECAME "BANQUE INDOSUEZ" AND THEN "INDOSUEZ". THEN CREDIT AGRICOLE BOUGHT INDOSUEZ AND BECAME "CREDIT AGRICOLE INDOSUEZ" AND FINALLY CREDIT AGRICOLE AND CREDIT LYONNAIS MERGED AND IT BECAME "CALYON" WHICH STANDS FOR "CA" CREDIT AGRICOLE AND "LYON" FOR CREDIT LYONNAIS.

I VE BEEN WORKING FOR 30 YEARS FOR THAT GROUP BEFORE I LEFT.

I worked at French Bank of Southern Africa Ltd which was situated at 50 Marshall Street, Johannesburg from 1964 to 1972. I went back after having my first baby and worked for a further year to 18 months but left to have my second child. FBSA was 49% South African owned and 51% Banque de l'Indochine, Paris. We only ever had a Frenchman as our CEO or GM and had close ties with BDl'I. The secretaries [pa's] had to be bilingual [English/French] - some were trilingual or more than that, speaking Arabic, French, Greek, Flemish, Italian, Mauritian, etc. We were a multi-cultural staff and that was what I enjoyed, hearing, learning about other cultures and languages. The FBSA branch closed down - I'm not sure when and would be interested to find out when the doors finally closed. Asian Branches[edit]

Incorrect history in Papeete, Tahiti?[edit]

The "Pacific Ocean" section states:

 "Indochine [Banque de l’Indochine] converted its branches into Banque de Polynésie in 1973."

But in 1984 in Papeete its name was "Banque de l’Indosuez". The location, according to Google Maps, is currently identified as Banque de Polynésie, but that was not the name it had in 1984.
