Broad concept article or not[edit]
Hi, I somewhat wp:BOLDly tried yesterday to convert this disambiguation page into a "broad concept article" per wp:DABCONCEPT, which was just Reverted, and wish to Discuss. No feelings hurt by being reverted. :)
What brought me here is the fact that I am participating in disambiguation efforts of wp:DPL, and there are 7 incoming links from mainspace to this article. If this is a disambiguation page, these are not allowed and all need to be changed. The incoming dablinks are from:
- History of pawnbroking
- Cornelis Kick
- Pieter Gallis
- Bank van Lening, Haarlem
- Stadsleenbank Delft
- List of protected heritage sites in Mons
- List of protected heritage sites in Tournai
Do some/all/none of these links target what is expected to be a broad concept article? If there is nothing special about a Bank van Lening, should they link to Bank or what other target, instead? I hope the reversion decision could be explained here (besides just in edit summary, although that was appreciated, thanks). --doncram 12:19, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- I believe you're missing the point. I HAVE disambiguated this topic. The links remaining are the ones left which needed to link to an ARTICLE on Bank van Lening. That topic is a particular type of bank which used to exist in the Netherlands (probably in Flanders as well), just as there are also articles on other types of banks: savings bank, investment bank, retail bank, co-operative bank, etcetera. So it is just an article, it no longer has the dab tag. The only thing you could blame it for, is for not being very elaborate, but that's about it. --Midas02 (talk) 18:06, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yes this subject could use some Wikilove from the Netherlands and probably Flanders. I just created a short article for the Amsterdam one. The odd thing is that these are banks but are not-for-profit. Yes, the article could be expanded and it is now linked to a disambig page, but really it's just a short topic article. - I created an item for this type of bank on Wikidata since most Dutch towns have old buildings that are now rijksmonuments but which were built as a bank van lening. It was linked to a disambiguation page and this is wrong, though the page, being so short, sort of functions that way today. Jane (talk) 07:48, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
- Jane, to my surprise I noticed WP.NL clarifies Bank van Lening in the Mount of Piety article. They claim its an alternative, Dutch name, for the same concept. I only had a quick look, there's a lot in the article to take in, but I'm wondering if it should be a separate article altogether. I'm inclined to say yes, but you started the English article, so you may be better aware of the differences between a Mount of Piety and a Bank van Lening. --Midas02 (talk) 10:50, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yes it's been a few years but I recall that the Dutch Wikipedia has it as being the same, but actually that is impossible. The Mount of Piety, though started by the Catholics, became different in each country. If we were just talking about something from the 12th-16th centuries that would be OK, but after that the laws change per country. The Dutch had them up to the 1960s and some buildings date from the 19th-century. I think this needs its own article, if only as an anchor for those heritage sites. I was wondering if the Belgian situation was different and I recall that it was. The Dutch capped the interest at 5% (which with low inflation was still very high, so the non-profit aspect is a bit hard to believe I think). Jane (talk) 22:55, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
