Emphasis?[edit]

Practically this entire article talks about the image on the container of the product, and almost nothing else is said about it. I'd expect an article on food and drink to talk about food and drink, not advertising campaigns or race relations. Agateller (talk) 19:12, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The following statement is contentious and can be rephrased to respect the neutral point of view:

This advertising slogans and images have been labelled racist and colonialist
by ploitically correct avtivists who argue that it reinforces the old cliché
of a stupid yet friendly African. However, this point of view disregards the
history of the brand and the popularity of the French colonial troops in 1915.
That statement no longer appears in the form shown above. -- Picapica 12:46, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is the "Hispaniola Brands Limited" section to be taken seriously? The website to which it is linked is not even written in proper English. -- Picapica 12:46, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They have deposed a request for use of the name, but apart from that, nothing more has been done. It is not even sure that they will be allowed to use the name or use the artwork to sell the supposed vodka. --Bob 19:37, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. I see that Mr Maslyukov has not returned with any more information . Unless there is any real development soon, I'd propose downgrading the Hispaniola Brands info to a footnote. --Picapica 12:59, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo. This is Pavel Maslyukov. I really wonder that the fact of my absence on this page issue discussions that we are aware of the spirits business. We are making vodka with the name "Banania" and now are going to cancell the existent trademarks of"Nutrimaine" because they have no any legal grounding. So we will forbid the use iof our brand apart of the designation of spirits.--Maslyukov 07:50, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Drink or not?[edit]

The article consistently refers to Banania as a drink, but the package art always shows a man eating the product with a bowl and spoon. Is it a beverage? Is it similar to oatmeal? 184.98.119.110 (talk) 04:29, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is a "bol", a french bowl that is used for drinking Café au lait (there you'll find pictures, too) and hot chocolate. So Banania definitely is a beverage. --62.156.183.195 (talk) 10:01, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Origins of "Y'a bon"[edit]

I do not doubt the source for the article, but it seems the expression was already used before WW1. In the 'In Flanders Fields' museum in Ypres, there is an original publication on display from the the French Army, from 1909, displaying the head of a Senegalese infantryman, and underneath it printed "Y'a bon". Since all I could find about the Jazz age starts at 1914, there seems to be missing something. Uve bianche (talk) 20:07, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Banania4.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:47, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why do the contributions about the racist imagery keep getting deleted? It’s well documented. IiIkyk (talk) 20:36, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
