Requested Move

This language is virtually universally called Auyokawa. "Auyok" isn't even an alternate form given in Linguasphere or Ethnologue or Voegelin & Voegelin. The only published source I've seen that uses "Auyok" is the German-language list of Saur. The only English-language source is the unpublished list of Blench. Per WP:COMMONNAME, this article needs to be moved back to Auyokawa. --Taivo (talk) 03:34, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

I asked Ethnologue.com why there was no data on their website for the code AUO :

I am working on ISO 639-3 codes on Wikipedia and I noticed that there is no page on Ethnologue.com for the code "auo", although there is one on SIL.org (http://www-01.sil.org/iso639-3/documentation.asp?id=auo) with no mention that the code has been changed or retired.

The 16th edition mentionned this language (http://archive.ethnologue.com/16/show_language.asp?code=auo) but not the current one.:

Thank you for contacting the Ethnologue with your question regarding Auyokawa [auo] in Nigeria.

The Ethnologue considers this language to be long-extinct - i.e. extinct pre-1950 (https://www.ethnologue.com/codes/relation-to-standards; also this FAQ: https://www.ethnologue.com/faq#node_25165). For this reason, we do not include Auyokawa in our listing.

Research that has been done on Auyokawa would indicate that this language became extinct before 1950 (http://www.linguistics.ucla.edu/people/schuh/Papers/A70_2001_shira_teshena_auyo.pdf).

I hope that this is helpful to you. You will undoubtedly find that there are other languages, labeled simply as “Extinct” in the ISO 639-3 listing, that will be missing in the Ethnologue for this same reason.

Linguist List

The note behind the ISO 639-3 stating that Ethnologue no longer has a page for Auyokawa is only marginally appropriate since there are many other ISO codes for extinct languages that don't link to Ethnologue and we don't note them. But discussing Linguist List isn't appropriate--whether there is an error in the linkage or not. (The error in linkage is complex since the page referenced after clicking on details is entirely about Auyokawa except for the language name and parent family links.) Mentioning the Linguist List error is appropriate in a footnote, but not in the infobox in a parenthetical comment following a comment about Ethnologue and ISO 639-3. Linguist List has no connection to ISO. There is at least an administrative link between Ethnologue and ISO 639-3. It is inappropriate to list every on-line organization that might list Auyokawa and the status of their links in the infobox. --Taivo (talk) 19:05, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
