"Automatic Stick-Shift"[edit]

I seem to recall that the VW Beetle's "Autostick" was marketed as "Automatic Stick Shift." Was this a registered trademark or formal name for the feature? 66.234.222.96 (talk) 13:29, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The first application of the Volkswagen Automatic Stickshift transmission came in the 1968 Beetle, which was also the first Beetle to offer IRS (independent rear suspension) instead of the swing-axle version transmission as used on the '68 & earlier Beetles with the traditional 4-speed manual transmission. In 1969, the Automatic Stickshift transmission option began being offered on the Karmann Ghia; VW dropped the Automatic Stickshift trans altogether in 1976 on the Beetle & Super Beetle. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.242.248.77 (talk) 02:12, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

name Autostick has been used...by who??[edit]

was that name actually used by VW in any way? <YES> You'd think they would have sued chrysler if so. <NO>

In any case the VW and Chrysler systems are so vastly different i'm not sure they should be grouped into a single article like this. <They are both named Autostick>

Chrysler Autostick Sounds like Tiptronic/Should be removed[edit]

Based on the description provided in the Chrysler Autostick section & the date at which it became available the technology sounds like Porsche’s tiptronic system which was sold under license/rebranded by many other manufacturers. The technology referenced here is just a standard automatic transmission that can respond to driver inputs as to what gear to select, within the predefined parameters programmed into the control unit.

I will update the VW section to clarify that the VW system, from the 60’s, was not a licensed very of Chrysler’s system from the 90’s… If there is a justifiable reason to have a specific reference to the Chrysler branded version it may make sense, to avoid confusion, to split it up into it’s own page. However, I believe it would make more sense to just add this as a line item to whatever page is used for the Tiptronic system. Appoli13 (talk) 15:45, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
