Not primary[edit]

Which renders the (Picasso) the minor subject and in need of recognisable titling. In ictu oculi (talk) 20:32, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Au Lapin AgileAu Lapin Agile (Picasso) – This is a not a life and death title improvement, but would be a small help to anyone looking for the subject gaining more Page Views - which is the cabaret Au Lapin Agile itself, not the article getting less page views, i.e. the painting named after it. No strong preference re what to do with the redirect Au Lapin Agile itself. Should it redirect to the cabaret Au Lapin Agile (which is at the somewhat odd Lapin Agile perhaps influenced by Steve Martin?) or should it redirect to the painting? Would lean to redirecting Au Lapin Agile to the cabaret Au Lapin Agile. But either way addition of (Picasso) or (painting) to the painting is still an improvement in article title clarity and disambiguation for readers. To explain why (Picasso) not (painting); because the cabaret itself according to the article takes its name from an earlier sign painting Le Lapin Agile by André Gille and (painting) might confuse further. • Redirecting to the cabaret, since it looks like it commonly is just called Au Lapin Agile, seems a reasonable decision, in which case I'd support this move. However, if we are going to have the base name redirect to the painting as a primary topic, the disambiguation would not be proper or needed. So my preference would be to support, with the current name redirecting to the cabaret rather than here.--Yaksar (let's chat) 16:16, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Not disagreeing, but FWIW there are cases for WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT which have the redirect go to a dabbed title, uncommon but not unheard of, but as I said I lean to what you've said anyway, to the cabaret. In ictu oculi (talk) 20:44, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Why not move this to At the Lapin Agile, which is the title the Met uses,[1] per WP:NATURAL? That way Au Lapin Agile can be used for the title of the cabaret's article, or for a dab page. Station1 (talk) 21:28, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't oppose that (although I had to use a fairly ridiculous search string to make sure it was a common name without the results all being about the play). I think the French language name is potentially more commonly used though (although I am not certain and could be convinced otherwise), in which case we have a question to which there is no one right answer: is it better to have the most commonly used name, or one with natural disambiguation?--Yaksar (let's chat) 23:45, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That's pretty clearly the Met's webmaster Bob riding on the Steve Martin play Picasso at the Lapin Agile In ictu oculi (talk) 16:09, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, I think the current title disambiguates enough that you don't need parenthetics.--Ortizesp (talk) 14:34, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose In the English language sources referencing the cabaret I found, like the Montmartre Guide and eutouring.com, most used Lapine Agile, not Au Lapine Agile, so I don’t think the cabaret has a primary topic claim over the painting, especially considering how low the total page view counts are anyway. So I see no reason to move, much less a good one. —В²C 06:25, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
