Athens International Airport, "Eleftherios Venizelos" → Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport — Would move myself, but the talk history page shows that its already been moved twice, which I would call "controversial" and would only create a move war. Update required[edit]

The following information contained in the article is no longer true.

"Athens International Airport is also among the busiest 25 European airports."

The latest data show AIA to be the 26th busiest airport in Europe. Shall we state that its among the 30 busiest airports in Europe or remove the sentence altogether? Many thanks, Kosovar (talk) 15:05, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Delta/Northwest JFK flights[edit]

Effective June 2, 2010....Delta's flight to JFK will switch aircraft. The flight will switch from a 767 to an Airbus A330, which is why the flight is listed as Northwest Airlines. Whatever code they may carry, the flight will be operating using Northwest Airlines aircraft (until certificates are one. The 2 carriers are still in the process of completing their merger. When the merger is completed (i.e. operating certificates are merged), we can then list the flight as Delta. This has been discussed to death on the Delta talk page. If you are talking company-wise, then yes they are merged but Delta and Northwest as AIRLINES have not merged. So until both DL/NW's certificate are combined into one, the flight will be listed as a Northwest Airlines flight. Regards! Snoozlepet (talk) 06:18, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I still disagree. It is really a matter of paperwork. This is still a Delta flight. In fact Delta is the one that has the rights to fly the route. And from reading the Delta/Northwest article, it seems the merger will be final in February. So what is the point in adding in a Northwest flight when it will be changed back to Delta before it even starts? That will just confuse people. I think it would much better be served by a bracket next to JFK saying "Operated by Northwest Airlines" or something similar. Greekboy (talk) 04:03, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was bold and have gone ahead and taken out the NW flight completely again. Latest info says that the operating certificates will be merged on December 31, 2009. So the NW A330 will be operating as Delta by then. No need to confuse people until the end of the month in my opinion. Greekboy (talk) 04:36, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No need to jump the gun and preempt Delta either. A single OC is a stated goal for early 2010; but even Delta haven't claimed any knowledge of an exact date wither. And, for example, MSP-AMS is still selling as NW XXX through the end of the summer. Jasepl (talk) 04:59, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is selling as such, because the paperwork has not gone through yet obviously. I still maintain that it would at least be better served to have something like "(Operated by Northwest Airlines)" next to JFK, rather than adding NW to the table. Well, if that's what you feel, then by all means bring it up for discussion at the WP:Airlines or WP:Airports project pages. The ATH page is not the place for this, since a selective change on a single article is not the way to go, when there are several destinations that DAL and NWA fly to. By the way, this has been discussed to death at those pages - and the consensus has always been to keep the entries separate until the airlines remain separate. It is worth noting that this flight isn't even bookable with a NW flight number. Even on NW's site, its a DL flight number (DL 832 and DL 833) and "Operated by Northwest Airlines". Using this information, and taking into account your argument of flights selling with NW flight numbers, it should be "Delta Operated by Northwest Airlines" like other airlines in similar situations (ex. Swiss International Air Lines operated by PrivatAir) on other airport wiki pages. Like you said, this shouldn't just be a selective change. See Newark Liberty International Airport#Terminals.2C airlines and destinations for example. Given this new information, I have changed article to reflect upon it. Airlines are still seperated at the moment, once again...this has been discussed to death at Talk:Delta_Air_Lines#.22Delta_operated_by_Northwest.22 and the consensus is to keep NW and DL seperated. A few "DL operated by NW" flights are ATL-FRA, ATL-CDG, ATL-FCO, JFK-FCO, ATL-AMS, etc. They are all listed as "Northwest Airlines" since they are using their own aircraft and crew. Once again, bring this matter up at WP:AIRLINES/WP:AIRPORTS and do not start an edit war. Snoozlepet (talk) 03:32, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Greekboy, I already explained the rationale above. If you still disagree then by all means bring the matter up for discussion, at the appropriate place. It is the same case. It should not matter what relationship the two airlines have. It is basically one airline operating the flight for another airline, like the examples above. In my view, and in light of the above evidence, you are the one making the selective change on this page using a consensus that doesn't cover this issue properly. The consensus listed was for renaming flights with NW flight numbers to "Delta Operated by Northwest Airlines". This case is a DL flight number operated by Northwest. Possible errors in the destinations' list.[edit]

The following items in the updated destination list do not seem to be exact and may well need to be checked.

1. Athens to New York by Hellenic Imperial Airways (is the route operative?) 2. Will Aegean Airlines stop serving the Athens Berlin Tegel flight on January 8th? They still sell tickets for trips after this date on their website. 3. Will Easyjet be serving Madrid from Athens? A list of airlines and destinations is rather difficult to check wether it is up to date. And it makes it hard to manage the list when there are no references at all, as it is in this case.
One option is to get rid of the existing list and create one from scratch. I have managed to extract a list of airlines and destinations for this winter period from the airport's website. This list is valid until Feb 24 for the european destinations, and Mar 24 for the domestic and non-european flights. A downside however, is that this list does of course not include the unscheduled charters. But those could be added as time passes.
I do not want to go ahead without discussing it first. So I wonder wat your opinions are. But I think the list we have now is quite out-dated (and very hard to correct the errors, as there are no references). Harbosma (talk) 11:10, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" → Athens International Airport – This is ridiculous. A trip through the move logs shows a series of moves to a variety of absurd names based on the airport's website, displaying a complete ignorance of (or at least ignoring of) WP:ON. Athens International Airport is a WP:COMMONNAME that easily checks all points of WP:CRITERIA, and is the only name that has been chosen by prior consensus. None of these past moves should have occurred unilaterally. And besides, check out the airport's website and you're greeted with "Welcome to Athens International Airport" in large, prominent text. --BDD (talk) 18:18, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
