Athena, Yuki and Kyo go to the same school in the KoF: Kyo manga and games, which is considered at least semi-canon and even had a videogame based on it by SNK itself. Notice: Athena and Athena Asamiya are not the same person[edit]

According to Japanese source ja:麻宮アテナ and ja:アテナ (ゲーム), the KOF Athena who came from the game Psycho Soldier, is a descendant of the original Athena. This was set when SNK developed the game Psycho Soldier. And when they developed KOF '94, they took the Psycho Soldier Athena as Athena Asamiya, not the original one. The SVC Chaos Athena is the original Athena, but not the Psycho Soldier Athena.

It's not a myth that people are confused. Before '94 they both are known only as Athena. But Japanese source identifies their statuses.

The original Athena is a princess of the Victory Kingdom, and a guardian of Heaven World in the SVC Chaos and NeoGeo Battle Coliseum storyline. She found herself superpowerful in the Fantasy World and defeated the evil emperor Dante who dominated there. So she could be considered as a semi-deity. And her image is an adaptation of the goddess Athena with many Greek mythic elements.

The Psycho Soldier Athena is basically a human with psycho power, which is explained by Japanese source it's from her ancestor. And her family don't have any of it. This makes sense the KOF Athena is not as superhuman as a deity, but rather a high school girl with certain super power, like Kyo succeeds the Kusanagi's fire power. It also explains why nobody in SVC Chaos mistakes the heavenly Athena for Athena Asamiya, but some does Dan Hibiki for Robert Garcia.

By the way, people continue assuming SNK's Athena was inspired by Saint Seiya because the similar plots. There is no evidence to prove it. SVC Chaos Athena's exceed move like "Pegasus Fantasy" or "Bow of the Judgement" are actually based on the equippable items in the original Athena game. One of those is named "Wings of Pegasus" and another is a crossbow. Other exceed moves are also based on the original Athena game. And they are essentiality based on Greek mythology. So it's of course similar to the contents of Saint Seiya. But both works made their debuts in the same year, and Saint Seiya manga took about a year to reveal goddess' secret identity. When SNK released the Athena game, the Athena in Saint Seiya was yet not struck by arrow. About splitting Princess Athena[edit]

All the complete info bringed by Mato Rei makes me think about split Princess Athena to her own article, leaving this only for the KOF character and then avoid future confusions. Basara-kun 03:47, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It never left Japan, but often game magazines in Europe and America would do previews of Japanese titles. Superjeugos is a Spanish magazine that previewed it, and Superdenki is a Japanese magazine that had a paragraph preview of it. I can also found Famitsu's database entry on the game. With a couple more sources and reviews, it could be enough for a full article. But we're not at that critical point just yet. Harizotoh9 (talk) 19:52, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I just keep coming across previews/reviews of the game in my research searching for sources on other games. I also found a German magazine review and preview as well. Spanish-German are pretty easy to translate to English. I've been collecting references to the game at my notes page here: User:Harizotoh9/Notes#Athena:_Awakening_from_the_Ordinary_Life. I don't really know anything about Athena or that game, but any game that seems JP only or obscure and seems interesting I make note of in my notes page. I went ahead and made Athena: Awakening from the Ordinary Life, using the two reviews as a basis. It's a bit ugly, kind of short, and lacks flow, which is typical of articles that I start. Harizotoh9 (talk) 06:07, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Television series:[edit]

This is the first I've heard that she has a 13 part tv series. This seems to be the most significant appearance outside of games. It should warrant a bigger section of the article. I saw a tweet with print media sources on the show, but it has since been deleted. Google cache however kept the thumbnails. They are readable, but there's no information on the source (date, publication, etc).
