Describing Gobineau and Chamberlain as "racist theorists"[edit]

A previous version of this article's read Promoted initially by racist theorists such as Arthur de Gobineau and Houston Stewart Chamberlain.... An editor took issue with this, and changed the article to simply describe the two as theorists, suggesting that the labels are not needed here. MOS:RACIST would be inclined to agree. However, omitting a qualifier like "racist" or "pseudoscientific" here seems to create false validity for their WP:FRINGE theories, which are universally dismissed by reliable sources as racist pseudoscience.

In this context, the label "racist theorists" is not meant to mean theorists who are racists (i.e. prejudiced), but that they are prominent proponents of racist theories, i.e. Scientific racism. The latter statement is neutral and well supported by reliable sources. In such a cut-and-dry case, it seems best to call a spade a spade here.

I've restored the prior version for now, but I obviously expect further discussion. Is there a better way to phrase this which doesn't compromise neutrality? RoxySaunders (talk) 05:34, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No, the currently description is apt, and well-sourced. Calling obvious racism "racism" is not a violation of WP:RACISM, and eliminating it is not making the article more "unbiased", it's simply making it less factual. Beyond My Ken (talk) 09:10, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And ,yes, Gobineau and Chamberlain were indeed racists, and I don't think they would have objected to being described as such. Beyond My Ken (talk) 09:10, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
