Confusing phrase[edit]

" in some sense he is to music what American poets were to literature before Walt Whitman." I think this is a confusing phrase. I am not sure what the author meant, and it should probably be re-worded. AppaAliApsa (talk) 13:45, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

American Trained[edit]

Foote is a fantastic and highly underrated composer, but to call him "the first noted American classical composer to be trained entirely in the U.S." is deeply misleading. William Henry Fry (1813-1864) and George Frederick Bristow (1825-1898) were also trained entirely in the U.S., and, whether they deserve it or not, I (speaking as an author of books on American music) think both are at least as well "noted" as Foote, if not more so.
