Tone[edit]

"vs" versus "vs."[edit]

Pardon the pun, but I think we need consistency with vs and vs. through the article. At the moment, I have gone through and made it Art vs. Science all the way through, as this is how the band style it on their official releases. However, I note that the band are not consistent either about this - they seem to change backwards and forwards in all official publications (Facebook, Myspace, official site). Even though I don't believe this to be grammatically correct (you should not have a "." after an abbreviation where the last letter of the original word is also the last letter of the abbreviation) I think we should go with what the official AVS publications (i.e. the CDs) say. Singles[edit]

What is their second single? "Hollywood" or "Parlez-Vous Francais?"? For that matter, what is their first single? Inquiring minds want to know.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:00, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think technically, according to the charts, their first "Single" is their EP, "Art vs Science"... although I agree that this isn't a satisfactory answer. The problem is that they've all received air-play on JJJ, and so it's hard to know what, if any, song was released as a single irrespective the EP. There are certainly no sources on the internet which I can readily find to answer this question. I think that the current list of "singles" in the article is correct. That is, I don't think Hollywood was released as a single. However, this is entirely my own opinion and I have no facts to support this (although note it was not me that inserted the current list of "singles"). Also, note on the article for the Art vs. Science EP that Parles vous francais is listed as the first single. Finally, I would note that the AVS official website notes that they have a "new single" being "Friend in the Field" - so at least there if a reference for that as a single. Sorry this isn't much help, but unfortunately I think the best options we have are:
  1. Delete the reference to singles and be satisfied with the references to EPs; or
  2. Keep what we already have in there and hope some references can turn up for the first or second single. Teachingwedge (talk) 01:16, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Continuing on from before, I've had a really good look around the internet, and I have come to the following conclusions:
  • They did not release a single as such from their first EP, Art vs. Science (EP)
  • It was just a radio host off Triple J who decided to play Flippers, although each of their songs of that EP got significant air-play: "The fine folk at Triple J have asked Art vs Science to play at SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS this year. Special thanks must go to Vijay Khurana from Triple J who has spun the AVS tracks "Flippers" and "Hollywood" on numerous occasions." (From their MySpace blog).
  • Parles vous francais is sometimes referred to as their first single on the internet, although I can't see any reliable sources for this.
  • Art vs Science on their website refer to "Friend in the Field" as a new single: [1]
  • Magic Fountain was a their next single.
Due to the unsatisfactory nature of this information, I propose we delete the references to singles, and just include the EPs, until their album is released. That way, we still have all the information - and it is the EPs that are counted as Singles for the purpose of the ARIA (and other) charts. Teachingwedge (talk) 01:37, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article is getting better but you have to nail those three [citation needed]s (or delete the claim until you have a reliable source) and it should get to B-class. With the whole EPs/singles business you may need to tell casual readers that typically (in Australia) EPs appear on the singles chart – there's no separate EPs chart. This may help with the confusion when EPs are nominated for Best Independent Single or Breakthrough Artist – Single. It will also mean that you won't have to repeat the phrase on the Australian singles chart each time an EP appears, just the first time.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:25, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Early bands[edit]

It would appear that Jim Finn was in Rogers Explosion prior to AvS but somehow has dropped off the article. The two Dans were also in other bands at the time but am still tracking down details. Yeah can't seem to find the school. Are you sure about Rogers Explosion? I couldnt find anything on that, but I did find this: [2] which says that they were in "Henry and the Romper Stompers" before AVS.Teachingwedge (talk) 07:15, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Added reference to Roger Explosion (if you check the band's MySpace site still exists) - not certain about Henry & the Romper Stompers, it does appear that they may have formed several bands during their University studies (check). Finally found out that they all went to Saint Ignatius' College, Riverview, apparently Jim Finn and Dan Mac were in the same year and Dan Williams was a few years younger. They all played in the school jazz and stage bands. (check it out) Not certain how to incorporate it into the article yet. Dan arndt (talk) 03:32, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Williams quote 1[edit]

Williams provides "February last year" as the starting point of Art vs. Science. The quote does not give the year he said this. Additional information in the article quoted from tells us that it is written before they played with The Living End and The Grates, they're also finishing off the first EP prior to its release. Give that the 2009 Groovin The Moo festival tour started in May (see here), this confirms the interview for the quote took place in early 2009. You should add 2009 to this quote.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:53, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sold Out Shows[edit]

With respect to the claim that the August 2009 tour sold out, I was not able to find a reference that supported this alone. So, I've adjusted the statement to claim that the tour had several sold out shows, and then cited 3 separate sources to support this. I think at this stage, this is the best we can do, because I've spent some time looking. Although, I did look for their school for some time and couldnt find that! So if someone finds something to support the claim that the entire tour sold out, please change the statement back!Teachingwedge (talk) 22:57, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
