Jerusalem population[edit]

I haven't read the entire article, but the lead section strongly implies that Jerusalem is not part of Israel, and/or that Jerusalem Armenians do not hold Israeli citizenship. If the former meaning was intended, then it should be removed per WP:NPOV and simply because it's incorrect, while if the latter meaning was intended, it should be clarified. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 21:31, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What about Armenian Jews in Israel?[edit]

No mention is made, even though there is an Armenian Jewish community. I can't add the information myself because I have little knowledge of the subject, but it is likely that the Jewish Armenian community is larger than the Christian Armenian community in Israel, and therefore deserves proper coverage. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 07:25, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For at least the Jews living in Armenia, you can refer to Jews in Armenia. I am not aware of how many Armenian Jews left Armenia for Israel and what is their situation. Perhaps one of those from that community can add a section here werldwayd (talk) 17:36, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not clear: "in Israel"? Really?[edit]

WP does not accept the Old City of Jerusalem as being part of Israel, by following the most common international position. Lots of Jerusalem Armenians make a serious effort to demarcate themselves from Israelis, some elder ones refuse to speak Hebrew, most do speak Arabic, etc. As a FACT, most Old City residents are not Israeli citizens, the Armenians included. Some prominent ones are positively asserting a Palestinian identity. In short: Armenians from Jerusalem are not automatically to be counted as living "in Israel" in a Wikipedia article. I am not starting an argument, but stating a FACT nobody can deny w/o showing ill will. Why do I bring it up? NOT for shaking the boat, but because the article should have IN THE LEAD some clear information about the absolute and relative numbers of Armenians living in pre-67 Israel vs. annexed parts of Jerusalem, and citizens vs. permanent residents. This would reflect the reality on the ground, and not some abstract notions. We need a reality check when we put out info. Thank you! Cheers, ArmindenArminden (talk) 13:56, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Are they an "Arabic-speaking community"?[edit]

Israelis#Armenians is listing them under "Arabic-speaking communities". I am sure that Armenians from Jerusalem's Old City do speak (also) Arabic, but what's their first language? Did the majority stop speaking Armenian at home and among Armenians outside the church? Arminden (talk) 10:59, 7 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 7 November 2023[edit]

A recent edit added a section into the "Israeli Period" commenting on a current controversial land deal, with a news article as the source... the section reads:

"As of 2023, the Armenian community around the Old City's Armenian Quarter has been shrinking and its survival was threatened by a by a controversial land deal that could result in less control of land by Armenians.[16]"

The article does not claim that the population's survival is threatened by the controversial land deal; it says that activists claim that the land deal threatens the population's survival. There isn't a quote from the activists in question, and the mechanism by which their existence would be threatened isn't clear.

I'd recommend that the paragraph be changed to the below:

"As of 2023, the Armenian community around the Old City's Armenian Quarter has been shrinking. Activists claimed that its continued survival was threatened by a by a controversial land deal that could result in the loss of Armenian control over 25% of the Armenian Quarter.[16]" Vjyntr (talk) 15:29, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Vjyntr:  Done this appeared to be a fair description of the cited content with an appropriate attribution of who made the claim. Neutral POV and better clarity on articles is always appreciated. microbiologyMarcus (petri dish·growths) 19:19, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
