Copyvio[edit]

The definition and spellings in other languages have clearly been copied from behindthename.com...

I have listed it on Wikipedia:Copyright problems. I think all it needs is some rephrasing, though it would probably be appropriate to site Behind the Name as a source, assuming they didn't get it from Wikipedia. HorsePunchKid 06:49, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Rephrased, glossed famous bearers from their Wikipedia articles, removed other languages section as it was a exact copy. Thanks for noticing! JesseW, the juggling janitor 03:40, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

Where does the "h" come from[edit]

Any information on the origin of the "h" in Anthony? --Macrakis 18:11, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation[edit]

Do I pronounce it "Anthony" or "Antony"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.108.127.36 (talk) 17:28, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The vast majority of American English names that are spelled "Anthony" are pronounced with the "th" sound, not the "t" sound, in the United States. Keeper | 76 15:08, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Depends on where you live. Americans seem mostly to pronounce it Anthony; the British pronounce it Antony. Speaking as a Brit, I wondered how the American pronunciation developed, seeings as the British have never pronounced it that way, and you don't say the h in Thomas, after all. 86.133.240.138 (talk) 16:49, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It originated in the transition from French to English in the Middle Ages, the -t- pronunciation began in French and many names in English show confusion about the usage of -t-/-th- in spelling and pronuciation (e.g Catherine, Kate).--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 10:08, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Anthony (disambiguation)[edit]

I build and redirected to here the page Anthony (disambiguation), per Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Page_naming_conventions It is acceptable, on the other hand, to create a page at "Term ABC (disambiguation)" that redirects to the disambiguation page at "Term ABC". This type of redirect can be used to indicate deliberate links to the disambiguation page. Jeepday (talk) 12:36, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Must or not ... be included someone [person] here, like this one?[edit]

He starred in numerous critically acclaimed, commercially successful films. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1952 and 1956.)

The films (including) La Strada, The Guns of Navarone, Zorba the Greek, Guns for San Sebastian, Lawrence of Arabia, The Message and Lion of the Desert. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor twice: for Viva Zapata! in 1952 and Lust for Life in 1956.
I don't see another [person]; and you can see this sentence there. Quoted: People - This section lists people commonly referred to solely by this name.
So I haven't added it, now. And leave it here, as a question. Thanks. --PLA y Grande Covián (talk) 22:25, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for not adding this entry. Wikipedia should not contain lists of people sharing a name which is very common; see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of people named Jacob. Only if they are known by "Anthony" alone should they be listed on this disambiguation page, see WP:DABNAME. – Fayenatic London 08:08, 18 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
