About a caption[edit]

In the "Shell description" section, the caption of the first image currently says: "Abapertural and apertural view of the shell of Amphidromus perversus". However that makes it sound as if they are two views of one shell. In fact the abapertural view is of a left-handed shell, and the apertural view is of a right-handed shell. This should be made clear in the caption. Invertzoo (talk) 13:20, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I modified the caption. Invertzoo (talk) 22:57, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks =D!--Daniel Cavallari (talk) 10:39, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Units of measurement[edit]

Where it says "one to three inches in maximum dimension" in the intro, the size needs to be expressed in mm as well as in inches. Invertzoo (talk) 22:11, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Done =) --Daniel Cavallari (talk) 10:39, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'd rather remove the drawings, and keep the actual photograph. There are too many figures already, and some of them need detailed captions explaining the abbreviations. --Daniel Cavallari (talk) 16:46, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Central part of radula of Amphidromus roseolabiatus.
Lateral teeth of radula.
Outermost marginal teeth of radula.

Images of radula may be useful for the article. --Snek01 (talk) 19:57, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit]

  • Would be worth adding a note on the etymology Amphi=both, dromus=running, evidently for the directionalities of the shell (please add the Greek words and a suitable source).
Done! --Daniel Cavallari (talk) 13:14, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • "surprisingly deep understanding" - not sure this use of adjectives is wise or encyclopedic. If it's necessary then the adjectives should be quoted and cited directly. If not, better remove them.
You're totally right! This was probably Laidlaw's (1961) opinion, but this is extremely unsuitable for an encyclopedic text indeed. Thank you for pointing this out! I have rewritten the phrase. I hope it's more appropriate now. --Daniel Cavallari (talk) 12:22, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Cladogram seems very squashed up; please increase its width.
Worked out what the problem was ...
Thank you =)! It looks much better now. --Daniel Cavallari (talk) 19:24, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Why does the cladogram repeat the names of some species? Does this mean they are being broken up?
I have added an explanation in the phylogeny section, please verify! --Daniel Cavallari (talk) 14:10, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Distribution section has a long list of islands; would be far better shown as a map, but this isn't a GA requirement.
I agree, but I couldn't find any good maps to vectorize or anything like that. Most maps refer to a single species, and not to the genus as a whole, and trying to draw a map ourselves would be problematic (forbidden by WP standards, or so I believe). --Daniel Cavallari (talk) 19:27, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Laidlaw 1961 is cited many times, sometimes as in Shell coiling 4 times in one paragraph, in Life cycle actually 8 times: this could be cut down to one or two in each case.
True indeed! I removed most of the excessive citations. Please verify.--Daniel Cavallari (talk) 19:22, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Repetition of the word "Amphidromus" can be cut down by saying A. sinensis, etc., rather than constantly spelling the name out in full.
I have modified the text so that species names are cited in full at the beggining of each section, and abbreviated thereafter. Abbreviating the names in the whole text would make things a bit confusing to the casual reader IMHO. --Daniel Cavallari (talk) 18:49, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Very good.
  • Could you point me to where it says that Zookeys images like the images in Shell coiling are CC-by-SA? It isn't clear where the claim on Commons comes from. Many thanks. Chiswick Chap (talk) 15:18, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is now a worthy GA, well done! Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:41, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
