I have some doubts about the performance of the 403. Seen that the engine had the same power, how could a plane with 200kg of mass heavier, and bigger wing (for better agility) archieve a speed even higher? 640 kmh with 750 hp seems to me simply too high.

If 207 was rated at 575 kmh the data often matched for 403 could been 560, surely not 650. I think this prototipe was not too good as assesset. And all the light fighter of Stefanutti were morderous for their pilots (Also 22.2, S.107, S.402, S.207). I think these data were really too much for such aircraft. If a fighter so fast was possible with 750hp, how so, all the rest of designers (italian included) were idiots to build machines with the double of powerhorse? I feel it was too strange.--80.104.204.98 09:54, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Data i have for SAI fighters:

SAI 107: hp 540cv, weight

Year: 1940 Crew: 1 Engines: 1 * 540(?)hp Isotta-Fraschini Gamma R.C.35 Wing Span: 9.00m Length: 8.00m Height: 2.40m Wing Area: 13.10m2 Empty Weight: 1280kg Max.Weight: 1600kg Speed: 560km/h Ceiling: Range: 800km Armament: 1*mg7.7mm

SAI 207: hp 750, weight 1750-2415 kg, speed 575 or 625 kmh, dim. 9x 8x 2,4m., climb at 6000 7,5 min.

SAI 403: hp 750 weight 2000-2640kg. speed 560 or 640 kmh, dim 9,8x8x2,4m. climb 6,6 min.

SAI 404 hp 1400 weighy 2270-3120kg, speed 670 kmh climb 6000m. in 7,5 min.

AFAIK these performances shows that climbing and speed not seems OK as compared between S207 and 403. In particular, the climb at 6000m. for the heavier S.403 seems really absurd: it should be less efficent, not more...S.M.
