Amanda Palmer (journalist)Amanda Palmer (Executive Director)

  • Amanda Palmer is now the Executive Director of the Doha Film Institute. As her job has changed she would like her Wikipedia page to reflect this. Helanecrowell (talk) 10:22, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • She is still best known as a journalist, and "Executive Director" is an awkward disambiguator. I would prefer a wider discussion. Powers T 12:55, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - I think that Journalist is a better disambiguator than "Executive Director." If her title changes to CEO would we have to move the page again? Racepacket (talk) 18:52, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - "journalist" (a profession) is a much better disambiguator than "Executive Director" (a job title). – ukexpat (talk) 19:31, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More about Amanda Williams Palmer[edit]

Her father and mother are from England. She was born in Australia.. She has four sisters... Her father is the CEO of "My body, My business" and "Cashramspam". Amanda Willams Palmer serves as Executive Director of the Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) and is Head of (Adult?)Entertainment for Al Jazeera English. Palmer joined DTFF from Al Jazeera English, where as the Head of Entertainment she has created, produced, directed and presented the network’s flagship arts and educational programming. Her award-nominated travel series, “48“ and her acclaimed international film programme, “The Fabulous Picture Show,” (FPS) have established her as a leading cultural expert. Palmer’s work has led to international recognition for unwavering support of international and independent filmmakers. By creating an unprecedented global platform for filmmakers, Palmer has discovered new and emerging talent which has resulted in distribution deals for a number of artists. Throughout her career in front and behind the camera, Palmer’s never shied away from storytelling that challenges her status quo. After receiving her bachelor of arts in journalism from Sydney’s University of Technology, Palmer studied theatre and music. She began her career as a national reporter for Channel Seven network in Australia before relocating to London to become the youngest woman ever to run their European foreign bureau. She then moved to CNN and Associated Press TV before joining Al Jazeera English in August 2005. She currently serves on Qatar’s National Film Committee. The Fabulous Picture Show The Fabulous Picture Show offers a fresh perspective on the world of movies and international filmmaking. Hosted from a live cinema event, it brings film-makers from across the world face-to-face with an international audience. The FPS team also scours the biggest international film festivals all year round - from Sundance to Berlin, Venice, Cannes, Rome, Toronto, Marrakech, and Dubai, just to name a few - in search of the world's best films. Amongst Amanda's high-profile interviews with acclaimed international filmmakers and stars, highlights include; Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppolla, George Clooney, Ang Lee, Mike Leigh, Michel Gondry, David Cronenberg, Danny Boyle, Errol Morris, Nick Broomfield, Dario Argento, Michael Winterbottom, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Dennis Hopper, Russell Crowe, Joseph Fiennes, Joan Chen, Gabriel Byrne, Russell Crowe, Michelle Yeoh, Ryan Reynolds, William Dafoe, Lord of The Rings composer Howard Shore and Atonement composer Dario Marianelli, as well as award-winning costume designer Gabriella Pescucci. FPS provides a rich and multifaceted introduction to filmmakers from around the world who have created a change or impact through cinema - it offers a plateau for new and independent as much as for established and accomplished filmmakers, and through this informs audiences with all interests. 48 The culture/travel show 48, sees Amanda and her crew taking the pulse of unique destinations across the planet – exploring everything from cultural and religious events to the social and economic backdrop of each location, with a special emphasis on the personal stories and "insider" insights of local guides. From Syria's heavy metal fans to Serbia's 'turbo folk' stars; from the housing crisis in Old Havana to the palatial Ottoman mansions of Istanbul, 48 explores the extremes of every destination to give a reality check on how people are living today. 48's first series took the crew to Cuba's Havana, Serbia's Belgrade, Syria's Damascus, Scotland's Edinburgh, Australia's aboriginal community of Ramingining, India's Delhi, Ghana's Accra, the refugee camps of Chad, Turkey's Istanbul, Morocco's Marrakech, China's Hong Kong. The second series from November 2008 included Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City, Argentina's Buenos Aires, Greenland, Greece's Athens, Poland's Gdansk and Italy's Naples. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.99.67.37 (talk) 18:42, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Move? (2)[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was not moved. This appears to arise from a reasonable misunderstanding of what disambiguators are for. We learn about the subject of an article from its content. The purpose of parenthetical disambiguators is to address the ambiguity created when a topic's most common name is also the title of other subject with existing articles. They allows readers to successfully find the topic they are actually looking for out of others the topic might be confused with.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 19:46, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Amanda Palmer (journalist)Amanda Palmer (Executive Director)

  • Replacing previous position with current position as of 2010. Palmer has taken up position of Executive Director of DFI as opposed to previous position stated as journalist Laurenjbrayshaw (talk) 13:35, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is not LinkedIn. We use the general profession as disambiguator, not whatever corporate title the person currently sports. Favonian (talk) 15:04, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ah, apologies Favonian. I did not see that you had a contested this request, so I moved the article to Amanda Palmer (executive director) per a discussion at User talk:Laurenjbrayshaw. If you have a read of that discussion and still think the article should remain at "journalist", I'm fine for you to revert and take it to a full RM (per BRD). Jenks24 (talk) 15:54, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Don't worry about it. I'm greatly tempted to pluck some peacock feathers from the article though. She "holds the creative and strategic mandate" for sooth. We don't even state that the Yongle Emperor held the Mandate of Heaven. Favonian (talk) 17:13, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. No reason to change. And she is still doing journalism. Lentower (talk) 10:55, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Journalist still appears to be the most concise and accurate disambiguator. --DAJF (talk) 11:01, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - disambiguators should be as simple and generic as possible. – ukexpat (talk) 14:30, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Move? (3)[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: not moved (non-admin closure). Jenks24 (talk) 03:27, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Amanda Palmer (journalist)Amanda Palmer (festival director) – Amanda Palmer is better known as and associated with being the festival director for the Doha Film Institute and Doha Tribeca Film Festival for the last 3 years. Biography has also been updated on page to reflect this. Laurenjbrayshaw (talk) 16:54, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Laurenjbrayshaw (and/or Favonian (see Page History)): Barely a month since this was last discussed. Changing 'Executive' to 'Festival' is not enough reason to propose this again. Not nice to waste other's editor's time again so soon. Please don't propose the move a third time.) Lentower (talk) 01:53, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Disclaimer: My role in this was only to move this request from the "uncontroversial" section of WP:RM to its proper location on this talk page, as it is clearly controversial. As may be seen from my comment in a previous discussion, I take a dim view of this general campaign. Favonian (talk) 08:05, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clairification. This from User talk:Laurenjbrayshaw "I'm trying to update someone we represent" (boldface mine), as well as that user's contributions, makes this user's effort on these three WP articles look to be marketing. Could someone else look at Doha Film Institute and Doha Tribeca Film Festival and PROD them, if you agree with me that either is not notable (WP:N)? Maybe this user should be banned? Thanks Lentower (talk) 12:45, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. No reason to change. She is still doing journalism. Discussion in two prior Move discussions above still relevant. Lentower (talk) 23:56, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. No reason to modify the disambiguation term every time she embarks on a new project. The generic "journalist" is just fine. --DAJF (talk) 00:55, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Disambiguators should be as simple as possible. "Festival director" is a position, not a profession. Timbouctou (talk) 00:57, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
