If Alonso de Estrada was not the natural son of Ferdinand de Aragon and just another low-level Colonial Spanish official, why was he given extraordinary powers in New Spain as treasurer? Aztec gold today would be valued in the billions of dollars. Makes no sense then or now to trust a mere bureaucrat with that kind of money.
