Alice was my grandmother[edit]

I have photos of her wedding. The painting featured in this article probably has nothing to do with her. I would be happy to add a wedding photo if I knew how to do it.

Alice and her husband, both birders and nature lovers, in addition to being world travelers starting in 1919, spent a great deal of time in the Adirondack Mountains of New York camping with their 4 children, Paul, Edith, Olive and Martha. Alice sometimes spent whole summers there, living in a tent, with the kids, while Lincoln came for weekends. Later after their children were grown and had children of their own, they bought a cottage in Coreys, NY on Stoney Creek Ponds (where they had often camped) with the intention of spending 6 months a year there and 6 months in Ithaca, NY. Lincoln died in late August of their first summer at the cottage, but the strong and resilient Alice continued to live there alone from May to October for years, climbing mountains into her 70’s, and hiking and canoeing, often with grandchildren, until shortly before her death at the age of 87.

Occasionally she was visited at the cottage by Mt Holyoke classmate and friend Dr. Ora Phelps, a renowned member of the Adirondack Mountain Club. Alice herself was unusually athletic, having played competitive college basketball (in bloomers) at Mt. Holyoke, where she earned a medal for being the most physically fit person in her class.

The Coreys cottage is still maintained and visited by Kelsey descendants as Lincoln and Alice desired. TallTrish12 (talk) 13:17, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
