Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because <replace these words with your reason>. — RussianLiberal (talk) 11:01, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • The editor appears to be in the process of constructing the article, so I'd suggest allowing a little time for that - in fact, I think I'll add a "hasty" tag -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:03, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • The hasty tag says "10 minutes", but please give the editor more time than that, as I don't think he is a native English speaker -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:05, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:CREATIVE for guidelines on notability of journalists. Nobody Ent 12:24, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • OK, 5 films and every day arrearence in federal news makes him notable even if some wikifreak thinks that it is not--RussianLiberal (talk) 12:32, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Listen, just stop being abusive and calling people things like "Wikifreak", or you might find yourself blocked -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:39, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What about users using the term in edit summaries? [1] Nobody Ent 13:36, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect that was meant as humour - but it did seem a bit pointed -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:17, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree with Boing, calling other editors wikifreaks just because they have different opinion is inappropriate. On the other hand, from what I've found in the news archives Pivovarov seems to be a notable journalist and an important exponent of the 2011 Russian anti-government protests. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 13:01, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you!!--RussianLiberal (talk) 13:19, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm leaning towards thinking he's sufficiently notable too. But I wouldn't remove the notability tag just yet, as there's no harm giving it time for more people to have a look. The worst that will happen is that someone will take it to AfD (which anyone can do anyway, even without that tag), and we'd all get to have our say there - it's certainly not going to be summarily deleted now -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:10, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
BBC and Reuters call Pivovarov "a leading Russian TV presenter" and "a hard core NTV veteran", which is in my opinion a good and persuasive evidence of notability. Not to mention the Russian coverage provided in the G-news search linked above. This is a clear case, the article has potential, at least in my opinion. No problem with the tag, I've learned to ignore most of that stuff. Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 14:16, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've removed the notability tag - as the evening news reader for a major Russion television channel, he'd probably pass WP:GNG anyway, but the incident reported by Reuters -- where he reportedly refused yo read the news unless he could report on the ongoing protests -- really pushes him over the bar. For those who disagree, AfD is available. Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:54, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your excellent improvements, Beyond My Ken. It is now a good and comprehensible piece of information on journalism in Russia. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 22:08, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, same from me - I agree, and thanks for your work -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 22:13, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to help out! Beyond My Ken (talk) 01:28, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
