Conflicting birth dates[edit]

@Billmckern: Two reliable sources in this article cite conflicting months of birth for Partridge:

  • January in Goddard, Merritt Elton; Partridge, Henry Villiers[1]
  • February in Henry Barnard[2]

What is the best way to deal with this? Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 15:07, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@HopsonRoad: I just did some checking. I would have said that the Norwich, Vermont town birth record should be considered the best source. It says January. But Partridge's grave marker and the bio prepared by William Arba Ellis in his history of Norwich University both say February. Maybe it's safe to assume that his wife, who died long after him, and the author who knew more about Norwich University's first hundred years than anyone else knew what they were talking about and February is correct.

@Billmckern: I suggest that we mention the conflicting dates in the "Early life" section. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 17:43, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
