WHAT DO THEY GROW???? WHAT DOES LONDON GROW? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.255.50.172 (talk) 00:55, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merger[edit]

Oppose I'm not seeing a reason to merge. Colonel Warden (talk) 21:34, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because it can be, would basically sum up my position. It isn't long enough, or distinct enough (in terms of subject matter) from Geography of London to warrant its own article. There is also no precedent for creating an article such as this - my point being that, if there were a series of 'Agriculture in [city]' articles that weren't stubs you could justify this one's existence perhaps. I still oppose. The target for the merger seems arbitrary - why not Economy of London or London itself? Or why not an article upon Urban agriculture in general? It is better to develop the article with its well-sourced topic as is and only consider reorganisation after we have accumulated more material. Colonel Warden (talk) 20:21, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well at the current time it's more about land usage, and it could easily be seen to fall under human geography. If it develops more, then I'll let it go. As I already said, I think this was created in error, and if it had been part of GoL in the first place, no one would have thought to create this article. It certainly needs work anyway if it is to remain. Yohan euan o4 (talk) 23:06, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose - This article, as I stated previously needs a rescue tag, but brings with it a host of topics that may only be seriously delved into if the article has its own topic. Firstly, there is the issue of urban farming, which consists of the classic city "garden" variety (a leftover of the '70's) and commercial farming. There is also the issue of the preservation of green belts around the urban areas, which farmer have stated they preserve. It fits a curious mix of farming in the GLA, mixed with community activism, access to local produce (a point of the WHO in recent reports), lower cost for transportation, feeding the poor, and environmental concerns. In other words, it cuts across categories, and is in the news as we speak.[1] It is, in all actuality, a rather important issue on its own. I would definitely keep it as is and develop it further.Yachtsman1 (talk) 01:39, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nice Work[edit]

Glad to see this expanding. Well done.Yachtsman1 (talk) 00:00, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks; going further back, maybe something could be done about the affect of the industrial revolution on London agriculture? I'm not as familiar with the subject (although it obviously facilitated a decline). Yohan euan o4 (talk) 19:40, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Low Emissions Zone[edit]

Might be worth mentioning agricultural vehicles are exempt from the LEZ. [2] [3] MRSC (talk) 06:23, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
