Blish actually summarizes the views of the author Gerald Heard, who studied theology in his degree at Cambridge, representing these as an indication of the views that he (Blish) received in several letters from Catholic theologians. Heard's views are not presented as official guidelines, but Blish does take them to match the Church's position on the "plurality of worlds". I've deleted the offending paragraph, as it can't be salvaged in anything like its existing form. Perhaps a more accurate paragraph could be written based on the material here on the talk page, though it's an obscure point and I don't think it would belong in the lede.
