Asea Brown Boveri → ABB Ltd … Rationale: The company has long since stopped using Asea Brown Boveri, and now uses only ABB Ltd. ABB is also registered by the company as a trademark throughout the world.

In 2004, the manager of one of its Italian subsidiaries was fired for making "improper payments".

The new case, ABB said, revolves around payments made to intermediaries in Latin America and the Middle East "in connection with the [US] company's business, which is control software for utilities" [1]

ABB-Alstom Power and sold its interest in conventional power generation systems and rail transportation to Alstom Power. ABB's nuclear business was sold[6] to BNFL and merged into Westinghouse Electric Company.

Oppose. ABB was the code for both an airline and a railroad. Given all of the other uses, I'm not convinced that leaving things the way they are would be a problem. The company also seems to go by the name ABB Group. Vegaswikian 07:01, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Bad name

So we had two options: ABB which is "more correct", or "Asea Brown Boveri" which was "less redundant". So which one was used for the title? BOTH!

Let's call this "ABB Group", no? That's what it's linked to from ABB disambig. Note that theoretical problem with "ABB" being an airline call sign has never resulted in problems with similar namespace collisions in the past, so to be honest I see no reason not to call this "ABB" and leave it at that.

International Combustion Ltd

I'd like to add a section on International Combustion Ltd (ICL) but I don't yet have enough information. ICL was based at Sinfin, Derby and was bought by Rolls-Royce in the 1990s [2]. Rolls-Royce sold it to ABB in 1997 [3]. Can anyone expand on this? Biscuittin (talk) 09:06, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

re User:Hogantanya (self declared ABB-employee)

User:Hogantanya has made lot of edits recently to this ABB-page. On her user-page she states clearly that she works for ABB. (Also, she is very good in editing, including more difficult tasks such as referencing, so she might be getting experience under an other name). I see no problem so far, not even a Conflict of Interest. But I think the article needs a review by others, to wikifresh it. ABB of course welcomes a wikifresh review by the Wikipedia community, and I fully agree with removing the PR language. Most of the content that was removed by DePiep on 27 April was added by User:Sanketsingh [[4]] in October 2006. However, changing the divisional heading ‘Discrete Automation & Motion’ (DM) under Organizational Structure back to ‘Robotics’ is not correct as this is a business unit within the new DM division since January 2010. Please refer to the press [release], which is a reference in the ABB Group profile. An answer to DePiep's comment in brackets is available on my Hogantanya talk page.

Well, clearly I was not targeting Hogantanya's edits, since I edited someone elses :-). Next, Robotics is a candidate for improvement, but the earlier name "Discrete Automation and Motion" is the internal ABB division name, and not very descriptive imo. -DePiep (talk) 10:53, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

ABB's Swedish investors: about one-third, not half

It says: "Fully half of ABB's shareholders reside in Sweden." under Primary investors. I can't find any evidence of this - does anyone know where it's come from? The text was added by User:Jacksonian3623 on 5 May 2009.^[1] with nothing to back it up. ABB's investor relations department tells me: "about one-third of ABB's shareholders are Swedish". It is difficult to prove exactly as many (almost half) shareholders invest through nominees. It is true that ABB's biggest shareholder, Investor AB, is Swedish with 7.1% of shares and votes. To the best of ABB's knowledge, no other shareholder apart from BlackRock Inc. has 3% or more of all voting rights.^[2] -User:Hogantanya (talk) Hogantanya 08:46, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
