Potential candidates[edit]

I think that we should limit adding any individuals to this list without at least one source. Otherwise the list could grow to hundreds of individuals.Mr. No Funny Nickname (talk) 21:11, 31 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In any case, should this title not be changed to 2023 Ontario Liberal... instead of "Next"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Doctorbunsen (talkcontribs) 01:01, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Formed Exploratory Committee?[edit]

Is a section titled "Formed Exploratory Committee" really necessary or distinct from the potential candidates list? What makes a candidate who is exploring a bid different from a potential candidate?

Furthermore, if this section is deemed necessary, is a single source from the subject themselves enough to be included?(Ie, 3 candidates have exploratory websites: [1][2][3]) Is the website alone enough for inclusion or should a third party source be required for inclusion.Mr. No Funny Nickname (talk) 16:29, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Exploratory Committees are more of an American thing. I've never heard the term used in Canada. If one candidate says they've formed one treat it as a one off - add it to their entry but no need to form a separate category for it unless multiple potential candidates start saying the same thing. (and then call it something like "expressed interest" - I think "exploratory committee" is a formal American term provided for in US election financing laws so not applicable to Canada.)— Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.227.133.47 (talk) 13:21, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In the context of this race, it basically means that they have declared their candidacy. However, since (a) the final rules have not been announced and (b) the race has not even begun as far as a Elections Ontario and finance regulations are concerned, no one is formally in the race yet. For now, "Exploratory Committee" means they have assembled a team and are in it as much as it is possible to be at this point. 2607:FEA8:A560:8B0:E963:DFC4:9299:93F5 (talk) 16:08, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Coming back to this discussion as it's more relevant with the Bonnie Crombie announcement. In the article "potential" and "speculated" candidates were separated to give some added context and differentiate between the candidates that are actively considering/working towards an announcement and those whom are just speculated but haven't been reported as making any active effort, but haven't declared they will not be running. With that differentiation, is another category for "announcement pending" really necessary? Is it different enough that it would not be covered under the "potential" category.Mr. No Funny Nickname (talk) 23:15, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Endorsements box[edit]

Removed the 2022 Candidates and Riding Associations sections in the endorsement boxes for each candidate. Looking at the articles for the last two leadership elections, these sections were not included. Furthermore, with the changes the party made to the leadership process and removal of ex-officio delegates, the relevancy of listing these endorsements is even more dubious.Mr. No Funny Nickname (talk) 13:44, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
