Russian exclusion[edit]

I think it’s perfectly acceptable to talk about the Russians being banned and the Chinese not sending athletes in the articles about the worlds, but I don’t see the need to bring it up again before the results of each discipline. It’s insulting to the winners, it’s saying because the Russians didn’t compete, these people won; it implies they wouldn’t have won if they had. 10 years from now, no one will remember who didn’t compete, they will talk about who won; it’s irrelevant who didn’t compete, the winners were the best in the world who competed. 104.172.76.206 (talk) 00:09, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's perfectly acceptable to mention about level of competition and about lack of many contenders. In my persional opinion, some athletes at this Championships won medals only because of Russia's and China's absense (especially in women's and pairs' skating) because none of them beat them at all previous competitions, and the scores of these medalists are far lower in comparison with Olympic results and season bests of Russian and Chinese skaters. However, this is only personal opinion. And anyway, it doesn't says here that these people won medals only because of Russia's and China's absense. Here is only says that many leaders of figure skating (according to results of past main competitions) missed this Championships due to non-sportive reasons, without any direct conclusions about possible results if Russians and Chinese skaters would be participated. Yes, may be 10 years from now many people will forget about many things, but that's point of Wikipedia - to keep information about it for these people who has interest in this.
