I've entered the parameters required to make it look like your version of the footballboxes. Deancarmeli (talk) 14:41, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's not need thanks, Govvy (talk) 17:05, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Govvy, it seems like you are not the one who created this section on this page, and therefor not the one who was addressed in this talk page message. The page layout wouldn't have changed with or without your negative comment. Please leave space for other users to express their thoughts, who might be constructive. Cheers. Deancarmeli (talk) 17:45, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Unless you're able to strip the link to Tottenham Hotspur F.C. when it's embedded, I really don't want it on the page unless that's done thanks. Govvy (talk) 19:39, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Govvy: It can be done. Will this bring you to support the use of the template? Deancarmeli (talk) 21:30, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive edits[edit]

What's with the disruptive edits, I seen multiple errors added, this is the season squad [1], it doesn't even match up. Austin is even missing. :/ I found that removal of all those citations highly disruptive. Govvy (talk) 14:47, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fixtures[edit]

@Mwiqdoh and Govvy: You guys realise that Premier League fixtures are no longer protected by intellectual property laws, right? You can post the entire Premier League fixture list, there's no issue with that any more. Just post the entire league schedule so you don't need to argue about whether to show the next 1 or 3 matches. – PeeJay 17:50, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@PeeJay: We are not arguing? He said we put 3, so I was fine with that. And the problem is the length not the property laws. Mwiqdoh (talk) 17:51, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There clearly was an argument, at least in the form of a mini edit war. My point is, there is no reason to limit it to 1 or 3 games when you can post the entire fixture list. – PeeJay 17:54, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I just reverted him saying that we only put 1 just like other season articles, and he said there is no consensus on that, and I agreed and even implemented that in the results by matchday list. There was no argument, just an explanation from him. And adding all the fixtures would take too much space, why would the reader care about a game in May? Mwiqdoh (talk) 17:57, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to restore this comment, but I want to address it. In what way would adding all the fixtures take up too much space? You're going to have to show them eventually? Like, they're all going to be played by the end of the season, so it's not like the space won't be taken up at some point. And why do you think a reader wouldn't care about the team's entire fixture list? – PeeJay 18:45, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
heh, @PeeJay: Would you like some fire starters? Govvy (talk) 18:00, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, you're all good. Would you mind adding the rest of the fixtures to the page? Nothing stopping you. – PeeJay 20:18, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you want them added so bad? Again, the reader doesn't care about a match in April that isn't even guaranteed to even take place at that date and time, and there is not much information about the game (Just the date + where the game is). It takes up too much unwanted space where the reader has to scroll through an endless number of fixtures. Mwiqdoh (talk) 20:27, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
How do you know what readers want? The entire fixture list is available to be published, why would you not add it? And no, the number is not endless, it is exactly 38. Knowing what your team's next month of fixtures looks like, or their end-of-season run-in, is valuable info. You're just being unnecessarily resistant now. – PeeJay 20:34, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Because I used to be a reader recently and I have friends who are readers. The squad changes a lot in months and knowing that Spurs play some team in May is not relevant at this point in time, whereas their next 3 games are fairly relevant because that's what readers actually care about, which is why sources highlight team's next 3 or 5 games rather than their whole fixture list. If some readers wanted to see a team's full fixture list, there are sources for that. 38 games is especially a lot to scroll through, especially on a mobile device, as not everybody has a giant computer where they could easily skip non-relevant information. Mwiqdoh (talk) 20:40, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I guarantee you for every reader you could find who doesn't want the full fixture list, there are more who do. – PeeJay 22:36, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Squashed table[edit]

Why has the squad list gone all squashed? It didn’t use to be like that. Coysfan (talk) 19:35, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Coysfan: Because PeeJay increased the font size and made the players' names wrapped. Mwiqdoh (talk) 20:41, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You mean I restored the correct font size. The wrapping can be fixed by correcting the forced column width. – PeeJay 21:38, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is caused by the column widths being defined in pixels rather than percentages. – PeeJay 21:40, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't disagreeing, I was simply explaining why it changed. And by restoring the correct font size, you increased it. You really don't need to explain yourself. Mwiqdoh (talk) 22:36, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I can read okay, just having to scroll sideways and zoom in out is annoying now, I need to buy an iPad or something. It’s annoying on this small screen. Coysfan (talk) 21:46, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately that's a limitation of viewing on mobile. Are you using the Wikipedia app or viewing in a browser? – PeeJay 22:03, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disciplinary table[edit]

@Badgery86: I saw you updated the table, but was confused. Did you add the cards from the previous two league games? As far as I am aware they hadn't been added, I couldn't work it out if they were added or not. Govvy (talk) 12:32, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Govvy: Nope, I just assumed it had been done and date not updated. Table is fully up to date and correct now. Badgery86 (talk) 15:41, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Badgery86: Thanks, I am not really interested in the disciplinary records of players, so I tend to avoid those tables myself! Govvy (talk) 16:35, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Govvy: Same, but someone put it in, so I'll do it, haha Badgery86 (talk) 21:24, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Results by match day[edit]

With all the postponed and rearranged matches, does that whole table need sorting out? Seems off because of that. Govvy (talk) 11:25, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

rivalries[edit]

Don't link the scoreline, a link can go on the round number for Premier League fixtures. Govvy (talk) 19:53, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Italics[edit]

@Mwiqdoh: If you read correctly, my edit summary said I checked "a few articles PL articles", not the 2022–23 Premier League article. Bizarre. As seems to be the norm now, no article follows a standard, so it's probably going to come down to consensus on even the smallest, most annoying things that we didn't think we'd ever find ourselves discussing. Seasider53 (talk) 11:52, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Seasider53: Dude it was removed on past PL articles because that season is no longer a future season! 😂 Mwiqdoh (talk) 11:54, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Have a look at the current season articles for, say, United and Arsenal. And if you want to be taken seriously, maybe lay off the dude!s Seasider53 (talk) 11:57, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Seasider53: 2022–23 Manchester United F.C. season and 2022–23 Arsenal F.C. season have italics too. And if you mean the 2021–22 articles, that's because those club's 2022–23 season already began, whereas Spurs are still in their 2021–22 season. Mwiqdoh (talk) 12:00, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You've lost me there. Have Everton (2021–22 Everton F.C. season) and Watford's (2021–22 Watford F.C. season) 2022–23 seasons begun too? Seasider53 (talk) 12:07, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Seasider53: Everton's has not, Watford's has. I will go and fix Everton's infobox. Mwiqdoh (talk) 12:17, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Im Confused... What are you arguing for? That we should never have italics in the first place or that Tottenham's 2022–23 season began? Mwiqdoh (talk) 12:19, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There’s a clue in the heading of this thread. Seasider53 (talk) 12:26, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Seasider53: Just answer the question. Do you think there shouldn't be italics in this specific article because the 2022–23 season already started or do you think there shouldn't be italics in any article? Mwiqdoh (talk) 12:32, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You can use an emphasis when no link is there, however, once a link is enabled it should be removed. Because you're having two links in a cycle of articles to switch between articles they should be the same text and format. To the advance reader, that would be confusing when you are putting an emphasis on one link and not the other. It's technically bad English formatting. Govvy (talk) 13:52, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Govvy: Even with the link it's still there in numerous article, even the 2018, 2022, 2026, 2030 World Cup articles. Which is why I think you need consensus before changing it. Mwiqdoh (talk) 21:58, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please stop trying to shoehorn your edits in by making reasonings up. The article-specific consensus is to not italicise the season link. Get consensus to have every football-season article changed one way or the other. Two editors don't think the next season should be linked in this article; you're the one who does. Seasider53 (talk) 22:27, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Seasider53: Firstly, the season ends on 10 June 2022, so we are arguing about something that will be removed in 2 weeks anyway... Secondly, you can't just say "this article's consensus" because the italics apply to every football article with an infobox, and you can't just choose to get rid of the italics in this specific article even though it's basically an unspoken consensus to include italics for a future season. I still don't understand why you don't want it to be in italics, please can you elaborate further on that? Mwiqdoh (talk) 22:30, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Because it makes an uneducated reader ask themselves why it's italicised, when there's no good reason for it to be italicised (unless you know why it's being italicised, which we shouldn't assume everyone does). "(loan)" in player infoboxes used to be italicised too, until the community decided it too served zero purpose. Seasider53 (talk) 22:34, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Seasider53: "(loan)" in player infoboxes used to be italicised too, until the community decided it too served zero purpose. Exactly. So you should discuss with WT:FOOTY and if they say it serves zero purpose, then please by all means remove the italics. And all your reasoning applies to all football articles and not just season articles, so the World Cup examples are valid. Mwiqdoh (talk) 22:36, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Seasider53: If you are willing to start a discussion on the football talk page to try and get consensus over a link that is in italics for a few more days, then, by all means, go ahead. But you need consensus because this is done everywehere and you can't just do whatever you want on this specific article to contradict what all the other articles do. And competition articles are no different from season articles in terms of "italics in the infobox" so the World Cup examples are valid. Mwiqdoh (talk) 09:22, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/League season Govvy (talk) 15:11, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Govvy: It began on August 30, 3333 and ended on May 31, 3334. Meaning that the 3334–35 date in the infobox is not a future season as the 3333–34 season had already finished. Mwiqdoh (talk) 15:43, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You’re right, @Mwiqdoh:. Thanks for talking me around. My input on Spurs articles is done. :) Seasider53 (talk) 15:47, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
