Bell-Lim incident[edit]

@Drmargi: The edit warring and BLP violations by Special:Contributions/117.111.0.0/19 need to stop immediately, so I've issued them a 3RR warning to the latest IP. For your part, you could've opened the talk page discussion earlier and linked to it in the edit summary (clearly the IP cannot find it). The only reason you're not also getting a 3RR warning is that WP:BLP applies to the content. I'm opening this talk page discussion in case the IP has valid sources that would suggest their version is WP:DUE weight, but I highly doubt it based on video of the incident.--Jasper Deng (talk) 06:10, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

For those interested (@Drmargi, Iseult, General Ization, and Nsk92:), there was one minor valid point by the IP, namely that the right-of-way rule doesn't seem to be something ISU themselves mentioned. However, it does not change the paradigm of the situation since the right-of-way rule, official or not, is a cardinal rule of all freestyle or practice sessions anywhere in the world. Warning noted, Jasper; funnily enough, I had started a discussion yesterday afternoon, was interrupted, and never went back to it thinking I had finished it. I appreciate the extra hands getting this under control; I had left a message asking an admin to have a look, but she hadn't gotten to it when you all got to work on the problem.

At the time the accident happened, the ISU issued a broadcast statement during the competition clearing Mariah Bell, much as stated in the original version of the entry, so that was our original source. Despite this, there was a fan-girl war over Bell's supposed motives. We also saw abundant video at the time that made it clear that Lim wasn't watching where she was going and got in Bell's way, but again her fans acribed all manner of motives to Bell, and as with the IP, expected Bell to prove a negative: that she didn't intend to hit Lim. @GeneralNotability: gave them a week-long rangeblock for BLP violations. If this were an account, it'd probably be indefinite. My thoughts are that it'll probably end up being longer. Glad to hear the two skaters' articles are under scutiny. I just came back from checking both and reviewing their history; the long, ugly interaction is largely in Mariah Bell's article.
