Best Game Ever IN FOOTBALL, No matter if its NFL or NCAA its the best ever seen,

I had to fix the box-score, total scores, and team records section of this today (2010-06-10). It read the score as ND 1, USC 0, which is preeeeeetty obviously wrong. The article also had USC's record coming into the game as 0-5 instead of 5-0. I fixed the teams' records and set them according to what they were coming INTO the game. Your fixes have been reverted, it seems. USC's penalty is to vacate their wins, not forfeit them. USC's record going into the game should be 0-0, the score should be the actual score of the game, not 1-0 (as forfeits are marked), and there should be an asterisk by the score with a footnote describing the NCAA penalty. Furthermore, there's no need for the invective against USC or the unprofessional tone. I went to UCLA (class of '04, winless against USC in football) and ND (class of '08, also winless against USC in football), and I was in the stands (on the North goal line); few people wanted this win more than I did. The basic gist is that the statistics of the game still count (except for Bush, who was declared ineligible), but it does not count as a win for USC (it still counts as a loss for Notre Dame, though). Samer (talk) 04:54, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Move?[edit]

As it was apparently suggested in the AfD, does anyone oppose a move to 2005 Southern California vs. Notre Dame football game (or something similar, but because of naming conventions the visitor should be first see Category:College football games) and making it more about the game, including pre-game buildup, etc. with a sub-section on the Push? The article now is essentially about the game anyway so it wouldn't be much of a change. If no one disagrees I'll do this in the next few days. Phydend 03:03, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well it's been almost four days, and I really don't think this is going to be controversial, so I'll move it. I've cleaned up the article on a user subpage and made it more about the game and everything leading up to it. I've left a section on the play, but described the play in the section with the rest of the game. In the bush push section I kept a part about the illegality, but added Weis' reaction. I'm sure more can be added. Otherwise I added references for some statements, fixed some erroneous statements on the order of the plays, and added a synopsis of the game. Some statistics might be useful, but I'm not sure, so didn't add them yet. Otherwise I think I left or fixed most of the things. I added citation requests for the call of the play from NBC, but i think {{cite episode}} can be used, I'm just not willing to do that as I didn't hear the announcers and am not sure if it is correct right now. USC NCAA Penalties[edit]

Given the recent news regarding USC's sanctions from the NCAA, I reverted the edits that argue ND wins the 2005 game and instead just took the win from USC and noted the vacated game. This game was played, and ND did lose, even if Reggie Bush, who pushed Leinhart over the goal line, was deemed ineligible. A vacated win by USC does not mean ND wins the game. It just means USC can no longer claim the victory. I understand forfeiture rules, but USC did not forfeit the game and is even in the process of appealing the NCAA's decision. This is how I read this based on past NCAA penalties and vacated wins, especially in basketball with Michigan's vacated titles. Tedmoseby (talk) 04:47, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
