It should say ANCIENT INDIA after it says Nepal[edit]

The king was born in Ancient India.....So the article should say ancient India, which is now in present day Nepal. 71.107.53.222 18:13, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was nothing called India at that time, no question of saying ancient India. Sabin lamsal (talk) 02:06, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, the name India is modern. However, it is completely conventional to refer to the sub-continent as "ancient India". And everyone knows what is meant by it Jayarava (talk) 17:13, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

History vs Myth[edit]

This page presents Buddhist myths as though they are historical facts. There are no facts in evidence. Jayarava (talk) 09:56, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, some sections should be rewritten per WP:IN-UNIVERSE. In fairness though, the article is more skeptical than most articles on Buddhism.--Farang Rak Tham (talk) 11:41, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Name Suddhodana[edit]

Firstly I don't think the standard version of the name should be the Sanskrit spelling. The Middle-Indic spelling Suddhodana is more historically appropriate. Secondly the word odana is defined by the PTS dictionary as "boiled (milk)rice, gruel." In other words odana does not refer to "growing rice" as the article claims, but to cooked rice. So the translation of the name is wrong. Jayarava (talk) 17:13, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
