Swami Atmanand English Medium School (SAGES) is a chain of English-medium schools established by the Government of Chhattisgarh. The schools are fully funded by the Department of School Education, Government of Chhattisgarh. Education is provided free of cost up to grade 8, with a nominal fee applicable from grade 9 to grade 12.

History[edit]

The Swami Atmanand English Medium School Scheme was inaugurated on November 1, 2020, by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel of Chhattisgarh, on the occasion of Statehood Day, in honor of Swami Atmanand, who dedicated his life to serving the tribal people and promoting compassion and service.

Objectives[edit]

The primary goal of the Swami Atmanand English Medium School Scheme is to provide quality education to economically underprivileged students, ensuring equal opportunities for success. As of November 2022, there are 279 Swami Atmanand schools in Chhattisgarh, with dedicated teams of teachers and school administrators committed to the holistic development of each student.

Vision[edit]

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's vision for the scheme is to establish educational institutions in Chhattisgarh with excellent facilities comparable to private schools, while remaining accessible and affordable to economically weaker sections of society. The scheme also involved upgrading preexisting government schools, including infrastructure improvements, modernization of classrooms, and the introduction of smart boards and modern science equipment.

Infrastructure[edit]

Swami Atmanand Schools prioritize the holistic development of students and offer a range of facilities, including well-stocked libraries, sports fields, practical labs, and more. To connect students with their culture and identity, the curriculum incorporates local dialects. The scheme has significantly improved education infrastructure in Chhattisgarh, benefiting both rural and urban areas.

Expansion[edit]

Due to the overwhelming response and popularity of Swami Atmanand Schools, the Chhattisgarh government has decided to open additional schools across the state. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has also announced plans to establish English-medium government colleges in various cities to promote higher education.

List of schools[edit]

As of 2021, there are 171 Swami Atmanand Schools in Chhattisgarh, with the aim of providing quality education to economically and socially disadvantaged children.
