The 12369 / 12370 Kumbha Express is a Superfast Express express train belonging to Indian RailwaysEastern Railway zone that runs between Howrah Junction and Dehradun in India. The train was introduced in 2009 between Howrah Junction and Haridwar Junction. It was extended to Dehradun on 13 January 2021.[1]

It operates as train number 12369 from Howrah Junction to Dehradun and as train number 12370 in the reverse direction, serving the states of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This train is also widely considered as the fastest train in the route of Howrah to Dehradun with also a high priority.

Coaches[edit]

The 12369/12370 Kumbha Express presently has 1 AC 1 cum 2 tier, 1 AC 2 tier, 4 AC 3 tier, Pantry Car 6 Sleeper class, 3 Unreserved/General and 2 SLR (Seating cum Luggage Rake) coaches additionally, it also has a pantry car. As is customary with most train services in India, coach composition may be amended at the discretion of Indian Railways depending on demand.

The 12369 Kumbha Express covers the distance of 1587 kilometres in 27 hours 44 mins (57.22 km/h) and also in 27 hours 44 mins as 12370 Kumbha Express (57.22 km/h).

As the average speed of the train is above 55 km/h (34 mph), as per Indian Railways rules, its fare includes a Superfast surcharge.

The 12369/12370 Kumbha Express runs from Howrah via Asansol Junction, Madhupur Junction, Jasidih, Jhajha, Kiul, Mokama Junction, Patna Junction, Ara Junction, Buxar, Mughalsarai Junction, Varanasi, Lucknow Charbagh, Bareilly, Moradabad, Laksar Junction, Haridwar Junction to Dehradun

Traction[edit]

As the route is fully electrified, it is hauled by a Howrah-based WAP-5 locomotive from Howrah until Dehradun and vice versa.

Timings[edit]

  • 12369 Kumbha Express leaves Howrah Junction every day except Tuesday and Friday at 13:00 hrs IST and reaches Dehradun at 18:05 hrs IST the next day.
  • 12370 Kumbha Express leaves Dehradun every day except Wednesday and Saturday at 22:10 hrs IST and reaches Howrah Junction at 03:15 hrs IST the next day.

Rake sharing[edit]

The train shares its rake with 12327/12328 Upasana Express.
