Gala (born Gala Rizzatto, on September 6, 1975) is an Italian pop singer who has had a longstanding career in Europe. For her first album, "Come Into My Life", she was nominated for Best Female Artist at the COFA (Celebration of Female Artists) Awards in the UK and she received the Disc d'Or that same year[1]. Moreover, the single Freed From Desire, went Platinum and Diamond, and sold over 6 million copies worldwide [2][3][4]. Freed from Desire had over 1.2 million viewers on YouTube in 2008 alone[5]. Gala's fans have created a petition to sustain her comeback at petitionspot.com[1][6].
Her lyrics deal with different subjects, (personal evolution from childhood to adulthood, materialism, gender roles, social rights, having the courage to be oneself), in a philosophical way.
The singles "Come Into My Life" and "Let a Boy Cry" went platinum in Europe and are still fixtures of popular radio channels worldwide [7]. She has performed at venues such as Top of the Pops as well as at the Bercy Stadium in Paris side by side to artists such as Janet Jackson and Oasis, before an audience of more than 20,000 people [8].
Gala's new album "Tough Love" was written and produced in Brooklyn, New York with the contribution of such artists as drummer Deantoni Parks (Tom Waits, Meshell Ndegeocello), Joe Friedman (Eartha Kitt, George Benson), Grammy Award winning mixing engineer Chris Trevett (Erykah Badu, R. Kelly) [9] and Grammy Award nominee David Seitz (Bruce Springsteen, Natalie Merchant, R.E.M.). Kevin Rudolf, who co-produced one of Gala's new songs "Faraway" is now in the U.S. charts with his own project featuring Lil Wayne. Tough Love, spans various genres. It contains an eclectic mix of dance beats and rock guitars.
The song "Faraway", which was in the top 10 and top 40 in a few European countries, has been featured in 2008 on new spot on national and cable TV in the U.S [10].
