Description
English: Bidauld was one of the leading landscape painters in France during his lifetime. He and his generation created classical landscapes in the spirit of Claude Lorrain and Nicolas Poussin. This painting should not be regarded as a finished work; it is a study made during a visit to Italy. This, and similar sketches, were made as studies for larger paintings that were executed at home in the studio.
